Kobe and Vanessa Bryant have been one of the most on-again, off-again couples in professional sports. Between the allegations of rape that first broke them up and the rumors of infidelity that did it again, these two have been at the center of crazy rumors and usually manage to get back together.
This latest one seemed like the closest they had come to being done for good. And yet, they just announced the divorce is off. Again. When it comes to love, this isn't shocking news. Divorce isn't easy and people go through many phases in a breakup.
According to Kobe:
I am happy to say that Vanessa and I are moving on with our lives together as a family. When the show ends and the music stops, the journey is made beautiful by having that someone to share it with. Thank you all for your support and prayers! Much luv, Mamba out.
Love? Maybe. But I am guessing money played a bigger role than anything else. Obviously, Vanessa Bryant is a beautiful woman and few of the rumors have ever been about her. She puts up with an AWFUL lot as the wife of a professional athlete. No one would envy her that.
But she also gets a lot in return. Her "apology gifts" are worth millions of dollars and her lifestyle is rarefied and materially perfect. That's a lot to give up.
As the wife of a pro sports player, she would have a lot of perks. I am sure they love each other, but I am also sure that there is a lot more than love that makes a marriage work.
My husband and I just closed on our house yesterday, and as we signed the paperwork that indebted us for so much money, it occurred to me that even if I wanted to leave my husband (I don't), I would think twice now. Financially we are bound even if we weren't bound spiritually, emotionally, and legally. That's marriage folks.
We can all be poetic and romantic about love and marriage, but those of us who have been at it for a while know there is so much more than lovey-dovey smooshness going on.
If Kobe and Vanessa can make it all work again, then more power to them!
Do you think their reconciliation is about love or money?
