Olympic Closing Ceremony 2012: When to Watch & Who's Performing

by Sheri Reed on August 11, 2012 at 12:58 PM

AdeleAre the Summer Olympics 2012 really almost over? Indeed (sniff, sniff). And London plans to send the games off with a bang of British musical fun. That's right. Olympic Closing Ceremonies are scheduled in London tomorrow night and the entertainment is said to include a fun if not cheeky tribute to your Brit faves from classic rock to the sixties to today's pop wonders.

So when can you watch the Closing Ceremonies? What's the start time? Can you watch it live? Can you DVR it? Where? When? Who's performing? Are The Who performing? Will the Spice Girls be spicing it up? Will a super-pregnant Adele surprise us with a song? Let's find out.

Date: Sunday, August 12

London Start Time: Events start at about 9 p.m., London time, and last until just before midnight. Follow Twitter hashtag #Olympics for live coverage.

NBC Live Stream: NBC announced today that it changed plans and will stream Sunday’s Olympic closing ceremony live online. The stream is available to cable and satellite customers who go to the NBCOlympics.com website.

Stateside TV Coverage: NBC will air the Closing Ceremony tape-delayed on Sunday from 7-10 pm ET.

DVR alert: If you think your DVR set for Olympic coverage has you covered, double check. Better to over-record than under-record.

Musical Performers: Confirmed performers include Fatboy Slim, Annie LennoxGeorge Michael, Muse, One Direction, The Pet Shop Boys, Ed Sheeran, The Spice Girls, and The Who. According to the Mirror, rumored performers also include Adele (yay! please let this be true!), Beady Eye, Kate Bush, Jamiroquai, Elton John (in a duet with George Michael!), Ray Davies of The Kinks, Paul McCartney, Madness, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, Take That, and Paul Weller.

There will also be 4,100 other performers, including 3,500 volunteers and 380 schoolchildren from the 6 Olympic host boroughs plus a march of 10,000 athletes (sprinter Bryshon Nellum will be the American flag bearer), as well as speeches from the Queen (will 007 be there again?), London mayor Boris Johnson (presumably NOT from a zip line) and Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympics Committee (zzzzz).

Are you going to tune in for the Closing Ceremonies? Who are you most excited to see?

Can someone tell me why we didn't get to see synchronized swimming or rhythmic gymnastics (or even shotput and long jump) but instead got 400 hours of soccer and baskeball?

not sure when you were watching vanae & sadyjo31 but we've had the olympics on pretty much daily & i've seen lots of long jump, during the day & primetime.  they had rhythmic gymnastics on the other evening.  i did not see any synchronized swimming though.

with about 26 sports, many having preliminary/qualifing rounds or many levels of competition as in gymnastics it's hard to cover all the action.  stations are only going to cover the events that bring them ratings & such sports as handball, weightlifting, synchronized swimming, etc. aren't going to bring them ratings.

I'm watching rhythmic gymnastics right now. I'm really not sure why I'm watching rhythmic gymnastics, but that's what I'm doing.
