Well, today's the big day! The 2012 Summer Olympics are officially kicking off in London this evening to signal the start of two weeks of exciting competitions between the world's finest athletes.
Plenty of fans will be glued to their TV sets to ensure that they don't miss one second of the action, but there are also a lot of us who just don't have the time (or desire) to take in every single event. If catching every second of the Olympics 2012 schedule just isn't going to work for you, there are a few specific events that you should pay attention to and try to tune in for if possible -- because everyone will likely be talking about them.
Here are a few can't-miss Olympic events that are sure to put you in a patriotic mood.
7/27 -- Opening Ceremonies -- Don't miss the start of the festivities, which will air on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET.
7/28 -- Swimming -- Michael Phelps vs. Ryan Lochte is a match-up you don't want to miss. Catch the preliminary heats live at 4:55 a.m. ET, and the finals at 8:00 p.m. ET.
7/28 -- Women's Soccer -- The games begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday (hope you're an early riser).
7/29 -- Women's Gymnastics -- This is definitely one of the best sports to take in during the next two weeks. The festivities kick off Sunday at 7:00 a.m!
7/29 -- Men's Basketball -- Yet another early start for these live games, which will begin airing at 4:00 a.m. ET.
