Dad Catches Foul Ball With One Hand While Holding Baby in the Other (VIDEO)

man catches foul ball while holding baby

Catching a foul ball at a baseball game can be pretty tricky when it's flying directly toward you at a very high speed -- so it must be about a million times more difficult when you don't have both hands free.

But one fan who attended the Atlanta Braves vs. Chicago Cubs game on Monday proved a one-handed catch can be done -- because he managed to catch a foul ball in his bare hand while holding onto his baby at the same time.

He had to think pretty quickly in order to make the catch, and you'll see how he reached up high above his head to grab the ball in the video clip below.

Can you believe he caught that ball -- and managed to hang onto that kid?! And I love how the baby is just chilling out, kind of staring up at the ball wondering what the heck is going on.

This dad definitely knows how to multi-task, and while he was lucky to make that catch, he's even more fortunate that the foul ball didn't wind up hitting the baby. (I wonder if the thought of that happening crossed his mind as he was reaching for the ball? Scary!)

Have you ever caught a foul ball at a baseball game?

What the hell is wrong with what the dad did?!? Given he had to reach and stretch to catch the ball, clearly he knew the baby was in no danger! Men typically have a good sense of the spatial, comes from our hunting days, he'd know if the ball was on a trajectory towards his kid and would have moved to protect the baby.

are you joking? you have a trajectory coming at a high rate of speed which could kill a grown adult (and has, many times, google it) and not only does this guy not MOVE OUT OF THE WAY to keep the tiny life he is holding in his arms safe, he moves TOWARDS IT??  For what? a BASEBALL?? I'm just going to pretend that you're joking.

I suppose he shouldn't have put the kid in the car to go to the game because people die all the time from motor vehicle accidents.  How negligent of him to deliberately to put his kid in harms way every day by using a car.

Oh and I took your advise Stinkydog and looked it up

" Fifty-two spectators are known to have been killed by foul balls since 1887, two in pro games. In 1960 Dominic LaSala, 68, died after he was hit by a foul ball at a minor league game in Miami. Ten years later 14-year-old Alan Fish died five days after getting struck by a Manny Mota foul ball while sitting along the first base line at Dodger Stadium—the only fatality caused by a batted ball in major league history."

As being the mother of this child that was "in harms way". The ball BOUNCED before my husband LEANED back to grab the ball. My husband would never put our daughter in harms way, ever. We have a wonderful memory of this experience and we can't wait until our daughter can fully understand how awesome this is!!

Darn Michelephant, beat me to it about cars lol. And nice job researching the stats for MLB deaths from being hit by balls, in other words, insignificant.
Perhaps "Stinkydog" should then change her name to "Scardydog"?

He should have caught the ball with the baby. That would have been awesome.

I think it's great. The ball wasn't anywhere near the baby. The baby wasn't even scared or crying. It was an awesome catch. It's those baby-parenting reflexes. Looks like spending all day catching what Baby throws to the ground finally came in handy! ;)

Michelelephant and American Expat, I guess your kids don't ride in car seats, huh?  Dumb/irrelevant analogy.

One death from a foul ball is one death too many. If you look up total deaths, though, you'll also note that at least 21 people have died from falling in stadiums reaching for those foul balls most recently one just this last year in Texas Stadium. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I'd gladly be "Scardydog" if it means my kid doesn't get hurt or killed from me reaching for a BASEBALL.

And for the mom, I'm glad it turned out to be a great memory for you guys. Really, I mean that sincerely. I It EASILY could have been something else. Still shaking my head over here..

Even a car seat does not provide complete protection in accidents. Guess you better lock your kids in the basement and never let them out. It's a big bad world out theres!
