Awards shows are typically such a snore. The boring speeches peppered with names nobody knows, the cheesy music, the canned humor ... wake me up when it's over. Unless, of course, you're talking about the WWE's annual Slammy Awards, where anything can -- and will -- happen!
Even though some viewers complained that this year's ceremony was boring, how boring can an evening of wrestling stars in outrageous costumes making spectacles of themselves really be? I'll take the Slammys over the Grammys anytime. Here are four reasons why ...
1. The Slammys are the only awards show where you could ever hope to see not-so-talented types like Jim Ross and Michael Cole compete in a live rap-off. (Although I'm tempted to say neither one of them will ever do anything like that again. Watch the clip and you'll understand.)
2. The Slammys are the only awards show where an athlete could win an award with the word "trending" in the title. Congrats, Zack Ryder, for Out-Twittering your fellow nominees!
3. The Slammys are the only awards show where the audience doesn't bother looking pleasantly bemused for the entire night. No filter on these folks!
4. The Slammys are the only awards show where Snooki could win an award for "A-Lister of the Year." Actually, the Slammys are the only awards show where Snooki could win an award at all.
Did you watch the 2011 Slammy Awards?
