The Great Tim Tebow Debate of 2011 rages on, and turns out I'm not alone in feeling the guy should try keeping his extreme excitement about faith to himself. Former Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer remarked yesterday on a Phoenix sports radio station on how his successor's a "winner," but he also thinks maybe Tebow could stand to reel in the copious displays of religion a bit.
He explained, "When he accepts the fact that we know that he loves Jesus Christ, then I think I'll like him a little better. I don't hate him because of that, I just would rather not have to hear that every single time he takes a good snap or makes a good handoff."
YES, exactly!! But oh no ... Tebow won't take Plummer's warring words lying down!
He made his rebuttal today, likening his fanaticism for religion to the same way people don't just say "I love you" to their wives on their wedding day. In other words, any time he gets the "opportunity to tell [Jesus] that he loves him" or is "given an opportunity to shout him out on national TV," he's going to do it UP! Argghhh.
The point here is that those of us who are rolling our eyes at "Tebowing" and Tebow's omnipresent show of faith don't necessarily HATE him. We just think his constant worshipping out there on the field -- or whenever there's a camera on him -- is enough already. We get it, Tim! You're religious, and that's great! I'm sure many football fans are super-supportive of it, and some even feel the same way. But his shtick is overkill.
What's more, Tebow's super-public worship actually cheapens his faith in a way. To me, spirituality is so individualized and personal, it seems like you'd want to honor it with a certain level of intimacy. And yes, even worshipping in a church or synagogue or mosque is more intimate than doing it in front of millions of Monday Night Football viewers.
No matter, though. Tebow's gonna just keep on doing his thing, but I guess that means those of us who are fed up have to just keep tuning out his shout-outs.
Do you agree with Jake Plummer or should Tebow keep it up?

Keep it up, Tebow! Of all the things my kids watch their sports heroes do, this is one I don't have to be anxious about.
Tebow should keep is up! He is a Christian and part of the Christian faith is spreading the Love of Jesus Christ and His word to others. If more people were Like Tim the world would be a more loving place =)
If my child looked up to football players I'd rather it be Tebow who praises God at every chance than one of those wanna be thugs who catch a charge at every chance.
In the time span of four quarters of a football game, THIS is what bothers you? A guy who loves his faith (and I highly doubt it is his "schtick" as you so ridiculously put it)? Not the blatant helment to helment hits that can cause serious health complications. Not the chop blocks. Not Vick who murdered innocent dogs, or Ray Lewis' involvement in murder. Not T.O. running his mouth in the most inane ways possible. You are irritated by the guy who kneels quietly or thanks God in an interview. And your view is that it cheapens his faith. You yourself said "spirituality is individualized." Well, this individual is expressing his spirituality in his individualized manner, yet you scoff at him for it. Goodness, I have seen SO MANY players run in for a touchdown and then point up to the sky. So it's okay to point to God...just not kneel or speak out loud about him? That makes people uncomfortable. LOL I can't help but laugh and not really be surprised that you agree with Jake. Jake, the guy who plea bargained after being charged with felony sexual abuse. Yeah. I think I would rather associate with Tebow over Plummer any day.
Why do you hate him so much? Because he loves God? Get over it!
