David Beckham Still Bends It Like Only He Can

David BeckhamThe stars were aligned this weekend for David Beckham as he scored both on the field and off. While the birth of his first daughter -- Harper Seven Beckham  --  with wife Vitoria Beckham is most notable, his feats with his feet over the weekend were impressive as well

For the second year in a row, he was named today to the MLS All-Star Game roster along with teammate Landon Donovan. They'll play July 27 against Manchester United -- for whom Beckham previously played -- in New Jersey's Red Bull Arena.

Fans who voted him to the roster were reassured they made the right choice when Becks made an impressive winning shot Saturday night during the game between the L.A. Galaxy and the Chicago Fire. The score was tied 1-1 when Beckham -- still recovering from a back injury --  kicked in a seemingly impossible shot.

Like many, Galaxy coach Bruce Arena was shocked. He told the AP:

I don't know how that went in. That's what we pay him the big money for.

Apparently. So for all the naysayers who say he's too focused on celebrity and not enough on his game or that he's getting too old, he showed them this weekend that he's still in the game, and that he can still bend it like only he can.

He got pretty banged up during the game too, and was spotted in the above photo checking out his bruised buns. Poor guy, but besides needing a tan, they are some nice buns, so no foul there in flashing them. Another reason to hope he keeps playing.

What a weekend for Becks -- a winning shot, being named an all-star, hobnobbing with royals who may be little Harper's godparents, and the arrival of his own little princess. I'd say it was a good weekend to be David Beckham. Of course, when isn't it?

What do you think of David Beckham's awesome shot? Do you think he deserves to be on the all-star team?
