NFL Draft: 5 Reasons You Shouldn't Watch

NFL draftI took a look at the calendar today and said to myself: "Oh right ... it's Draft Day." It's easy enough to forget, with all those reports about the NFL lockout. And I don't know if you've heard, but the "wedding of the century" is taking place this weekend.

So forgive me for forgetting about the draft. But, hey, since there might not even be a season, it's tough to get pumped about it. And I don't know about you, but trying to figure out all the politics behind the lockout and keeping up with the ever-changing headlines, makes me want to scream at everyone involved: "MAKE UP YOUR FRIGGIN' MINDS!"

As far as I'm concerned, the kick-off of the draft tonight at 8 p.m. EST might not even be worth watching. Here's why:

Mini NFL Boycott: On top of the draft, today the NFL announced that on Friday at 8 a.m., the league will re-start itself for business. Though unlikely, the possibility exists that this could be reversed in a day or so. But I'm so tired of the backhanded politics, greed, and legalese revolving around this issue. I'm a football fan and I still have no idea what the hell is going on. Avoiding the draft would be like my version of a pathetic yet mentally satisfying boycott.

Wills & Kate! OMFG!!: I don't know what's been worse: media coverage of the NFL lockout or media coverage of the Royal Wedding. As I've read so much speculation about Kate Middleton's dress and Prince Harry's date and the food and the venue and the traditions and the vows, I might skip the draft to take a nap in order to get up at 4 a.m. and see what all the damn fuss is about.

Celebrate Spring: After an absolutely horrific winter in the Northeast (and everywhere else), now it's in the 70s, it's sunny, and I get to wear flip-flops. What better way to ring in spring than buying a bunch of fresh strawberries and getting too drunk to watch the draft off of strawberry mojitos?

Better Sports Are On: The NBA playoffs are on tonight! Magic! Lakers! Mavericks! Watching these games could give a sports fan their high far more easily than watching a bunch of dudes announcing stuff to a bunch of other dudes.

Can't-Miss TV: Do you know what else will be broadcast during the draft tonight? Steve Carell's final episode of The Office. It'd be tough to miss Michael Scott's farewell performance. I think I'm going to have to tune in to that hilarity instead. Sorry Roger Goodell!

Are you watching the draft tonight? Or would you rather be doing one of these five things?
