Reds Pitcher Mike Leake Shoplifts Despite Crazy Salary

shopliftingTypically, when sports stars get in trouble, it's involving drugs, cars, hookers, owls. Rarely do we see the athlete arrested for shoplifting -- it's the one area in their personal lives that they typically don't have trouble in because they're ballers! They make bank! Another funny phrase about money! But rules are nothing if not meant to be broken. Enter Cincinnati Reds' pitcher, Mike Leake.

Leake, for those of you who don't know, was the Reds' first-round draft pick in 2009 out of Arizona State University. He received a $2.3 million signing bonus and is set to make $425,000 for the 2011 season. However, the baseball star felt the need to rip the tags off of six t-shirts at a Macy's Monday night and try to take them home.

Tsk, tsk, Mike Leake. Did you forget your wallet? Or were you pulling a Winona Ryder? And if it's the latter, why did you only take some stupid t-shirts?

I mean, isn't the whole thing behind rich people who shoplift "to get that high"? Are you really getting that from six American Rag t-shirts? If you're going to steal, steal big -- a piece of jewelry, a coat, a hockey stick just to "see if you can." My 3-year-old nephew could take six t-shirts without getting caught. BFD. I'm just kidding. I don't even have a 3-year-old nephew. Or a nephew at all. My sister's not even married! I don't even work here! What is going on?!

No, what I'm thinking now is you just felt flat-out entitled. Perhaps you thought, "Hmph, I'm a big, bad baseball player. I should be able to get anything I want. I'm going to take these cheesy t-shirts and hang them in my closet next to my Ed Hardy ones. That'll show 'em!" What's your deal, dude? I'm dying to know, because this is one of the oddest things I've ever heard.

Mike, a word to the wise, if you're trying to "get high" or if you feel you're "entitled," just act like a normal athlete and take steroids or freak out on a cop. This stuff is just sophomoric.

What do you think of Mike Leakes shoplifting?
