New England Patriots star Tom Brady didn't dress up for Carnival (Brazil's Mardi Gras) this year, but he was rockin' a look that has tongues wagging: A ponytail. Yup, it looks like the quarterback may be trying to compete with wifey Gisele Bundchen's sexy-beachy, long golden locks by growing out a shaggy 'do of his own.
Actually, Gisele may factor in big-time to this hairy new development for Brady. The Victoria's Secret Angel is also the Brazilian spokesperson for Pantene, and at Carnival, she was headlining a samba float called “Hair." So, maybe Tom's new mane was some kind of shout-out to his wife? No matter what the reason. Since catching a glimpse of the new look, football fans -- especially those oh-so-macho Pats fans -- are groaning and shaking their heads in shame ...
Ponytail or no ponytail, I've never really been keen on the guy. Maybe I don't like how he dumped pregnant ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan and immediately started to date now wife Gisele Bundchen. He also rarely smiles. But, after seeing him looking so happy with Gisele and making somewhat of a spectacle of himself on the streets of Rio -- thanks to the new hairstyle and ALSO with a few choice dance moves -- I'm actually thinking maybe he's not so bad after all.
He even spoke to local media, and said that he was having a blast, commenting, "The costumes were beautiful, and the music was perfect!"
But, the reviews for his hairstyle are significantly less glowing ... SBnation.com blogger Spencer Hall even tweeted:
Tom Brady with a ponytail is two agelines and going commando in pajama pants away from being a creepy pottery instructor.
Personally, I think these haters are just jealous that they can't rock the dirty, shaggy style and say that the hottest supermodel in the world is their wife. Gisele, by the way, is clearly a fan of the look, because she was ALL OVER Brady at the celebration.
Another reason I'm all for the pony: It seems to be Brady's way of saying, "Hey, this is who I am, take it or leave it." He's letting his freak flag fly! I'm certainly all for that. He actually told The Boston Herald a while back:
I haven’t broken the ponytail out yet. I gotta really build up some self-esteem before I do that because I’m sure I’ll take a lot of heat.
Guess he called it! But I say, you work that self-esteem, Tom! Keep dancin', too! Maybe we can see some of those new steps at the goal line next football season.
Here's the video if you wanna check out his mane and his moves ...
