You can let out a sigh of relief ladies, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit 2011 cover model has been announced. Twenty-five-year-old bronzed bombshell, Irina Shayk, has won the most coveted magazine spot in the world and is the first Russian model to grace the cover of the SI swimsuit edition.
She found out she got this top honor in modelling last night on Late Night With David Letterman. He had the 10 models in the running for the position do the Top 10 countdown, and it was revealed that Irina Shayk was number one.
The photo, as with every SI swimsuit cover, is H.O.T. But I think I see a little pattern forming here ... is SI only promoting girlfriends of superstar actors and athletes?
In 2009 Israeli model Bar Refaeli was dating Leonardo DiCaprio, and she made the cover. In 2010 it was blond babe Brooklyn Decker, wife of tennis star Andy Roddick, who posed for the top spot. And now it's Irina Shayk, whose boyfriend is soccer phenom Cristiano Ronaldo.
Unfortunately I think it has less to do with a conspiracy and more to do with the fact that these women are gorgeous, their men are gorgeous, and they find each other at gorgeous places and start gorgeously dating. At least for a little while anyway.
But if you're a super hot lady out there and want to land an SI swimsuit cover, it wouldn't hurt if your main squeeze was someone famous and/or as hot as you. Personally, my goal for 2011 is to nail down James Franco as my fiance ... so I might be in the running for the 2012 cover. Now I just need to grow six inches and bloom giant breasts. Anything is possible!
It's Irina's fifth appearance in the issue and her first cover. The pink and yellow bikini is Sauvage by Elizabeth Southwood and the bracelet (as if anyone will ever notice it) is by Ettika.
What are your thoughts on the SI Swimsuit Edition?
