I heart Baby Buggy, a non-profit organization in New York that gives new moms in need equipment for their babies—strollers, cribs, car seats, clothes, bottles, toys, and other essential items.
The organization, whose motto is "Love, Recycled," was founded by Jessica Seinfeld eight years ago and it's been a huge success.
All of the gear comes from donations made by other moms who can drop off stuff or request that it be picked up at their homes. Baby Buggy works with social service organizations to get the baby goods into the hands of families who need them.
Baby Buggy's Project Safe Sleep, a campaign to supply cribs to underprivileged newborns, has already provided more than 3,000 babies with cribs.
Even if you don't live in the New York City area, you can put the concept to work in your community. Give some of your baby shower gifts—or doubles and triples—to a pregnant woman in need. When you're done using gear, clothes, and toys, donate items rather than selling or tossing them.
Where to donate? It's up to you. If there's no Baby Buggy type of organization in your community, consider contacting your local woman's shelter, hospital, church, non-profit group, or social service agency.
