Too Young to Have a Baby?

I'm going to turn the tables here -- let's start a little discussion on age and pregnancy, but not the age you expect.

I'm considered an old mom. I don't feel old, nor do I think I am old, but there are people who believe that I am too old to have kids. I'm 37. Expecting twins. First babies. Any day now.

I've read how some think I'll be more like a grandmother to my kids and won't be able to keep up with them and to this I say that's ridiculous. They will have their grandmas and I will be mom in high heels running around after them in the park.

But enough talk about older moms, what about young moms? How young is too young to be a mother?

Before we get into it, let me say this, and I've said it before -- what you think is right for you is one thing, but there are some who make blanket statements like No one over 30 should have babies. If that person said, I personally don't want to have babies past the age of 30 that is a whole different thing.

With some girls getting their period early, and having sex young, the possibility of getting pregnant is very real. Is 12 years old too young to become a mom?

For me, personally, I would think I would have been the worst mom ever at 12. At 16. At even 21. But then again, I don't know. I was never put in that position. And I know women who were and turned out to be amazing moms who raised incredible kids.

On this post about how young is too young to make a decision about a pregnancy, one mom had a great response if your daughter got pregnant at a young age. She said we can't make the decision for them, but we can guide them to make the right choice.

Do you believe there should be a set age for when a woman gets pregnant or do you believe it's up to the woman? Is there such a thing as too young or does it depend?

i had my first at 19 and im now 23 having number 2 i think that having a baby before your 16 is wayyyyyy toooo young, and before 18 is still young i wish i hadnt gotten pregnant so young with my first but i wouldnt change her for anything in the world... but i plan on theaching my daughter better and hoping she wont have any children or sex too early on in life..... but i think that any women that has any child at any age is a good women as long as she does right by her children and is a mother not just a birth giver.

I had a baby at 22 and then at 35, neither was good too young and too old. Did not have the maturity to manage and now have no energy to deal with everything. the ideal age is 25-30

i am too young to be a mom because i am only 14 but i do want to become a mom when i get older... however i think 37 not too old to have baby because my mom had me at  37 and i do think that if you are over 18 or out of the high-school then you are old enough to have a baby....................but i do think it is too old to have first baby at 37 and i am youngest kid so that is why my mom had me at 37. last, if you are under 18 or still in high school that is too young to have a baby. thats my opinion  sorry if you disagree. hope it was helpful. bye:)butterfly

I'm 20, almost 21 and I would love to have kids earlier but my fiance doesn't want to until we're 30. That is WAY too late for a first for me :(

your body is able to produce a child at 11 years of age and for some younger than that, how can you be too young your an adult by 11 society has changed that and now 18-21 is an adult, but the natural age of an adult is 11 years of age, by the way what is too young what age compared to what, comparing 12 to 40 comparing it to 50 or 100 or 400 or higher like in bible ages that people in the old testament reached, "too young" lol what a joke there is no age in which someone is able to call someone too young for anything your not even close to authorized to say such a thing unless age separators were still centuries and not decades what a joke

I was 13 when I had my first baby, I am now 29 and 20 weeks pregnant with my second. I was so young and couldn't appreciate the pregnancy as I do with this one. I grew up with my first and will see my second grow. There is no great age but any number that ends with teen you should try to enjoy it. My daughter is now 15 and a sophmore in HS I can't believe how time flies it was very hard raising a kid when your still a kid and it is still hard for me. Most of her friends don't even believe that I'm her mom and when I go to meetings at her school they always ask where her parents are!

I have a question for all of you.... I am eighteen. My boyfriend is twenty. It is my first year at a community college. I have ALWAYS loveeeed children and babies. The screaming pooping and all. I've seen what it comes with. My boyfriend and I plan to become engaged soon and all I can think about is how badly I want a baby. I am VERY mature for my age and we both have stable well paying jobs. I thought I was pregnant a week ago and when the test came out negative I cried for hours. I almost feel like its abnormal how badly I want a family at such a young age. But I feel like i was born to be a mother. It just comes naturally to me. I have no desire to experience a "college party life" I really would just like to have a family and get married very soon. Id like to hear thoughts and advice?

I personally feel that everyone is different. I was 14 when I gave birth to my first child. I am now 29 and have 4 all together. I graduated High School, went to college, am part owner in a business, and am now going back to college to get my teaching degree. I grew up quick but love every minute of it.  Now I know a few people that had kids at 18 and neglect them like crazy and sholdn't be a parent. Me and my best friend always said you should need a license to breed. I don't think there is an age for anyone just the right time in life and I hope that people realize that.
