Inspiration for Baby Names

I love Baby Name Central -- I could lose some serious time in there looking around at all of the creative ideas and suggestions (note: it's a private group, so you'll need to join to see and participate in the discussions.) Some get-inspired threads include
moms posting their current favorite name + the meaning and a list of awesome baby name sites. Here are some other places to get excited about (or just get started with) baby names.

The Social Security Administration is good for one-stop comparative shopping if you want to see what's in the national top ten names for boys and girls (Jacob and Emily are currently in the number one slots).

For a more urban, less national perspective, scan New York City's list of most popular names for 2007. (Cafe Suzanne mentioned the list in Baby Buzz.)

I recently wrote about nameberry, a brand-new baby names site -- you can browse by popularity, style, and more, and they keep a running list of recent celeb baby names. (Example? Amy Poehler went with Archie.)

For free-spirited, unusual choices, try hippynames -- some fun examples include Free, Paisley, Heart, Iris, Rain, Joplin, and Serenity.

And check out Unique Baby Names for more ideas from baby-mamas-to-be around here. An interesting poll there? "Masculine" names for girls.

What's your source of inspiration when it comes to baby names? A site you love? A book? Family names? Or are you going to be totally original and make one up?
