Hopefully, you won't need an x-ray while you're pregnant, but what if you do? Would you be putting your baby at risk by getting one?
According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, x-rays during pregnancy are safe. But other scientists disagree about the risk to your unborn child from the radiation used in x-ray examinations. It's been associated with a very small increased risk of cancer, particularly leukemia.
Even though the risk is small, it's not a risk that a lot of pregnant women are willing to take. Thus, most medical experts say you should get an x-ray only when the benefits to your health outweigh the risk to the baby's health.
Keep in mind that all x-rays are not the same. According to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, most x-ray examinations pose little threat to your uterus and developing baby. So for example, it would be okay to get an x-ray of your teeth, arms, legs, and chest. However, x-rays of a pregnant woman's abdominal area (stomach, pelvis, lower back, and kidneys) are more of a concern because the developing baby is exposed to the direct x-ray beam.
Always let your health-care provider or x-ray technician know that you are pregnant.

My son had a swallow test done and they asked a couple times if I was pregnant since I was going to be in with my son while the test was done. They had signs on the wall and everything about "If you are pregnant, tell the doctor". It freaked me out, I would not have a exray done while pregnant.
This happened to me before i even knew i was pregnant. my youngest son had to have x-rays done and i did not even know i was pregnant yet. then when i found out that i was pregnant i had to have more x-rays taken of me because i had broken my elbow. when i asked the doctor if it was safe he said that in the first trimester if i had x-rays and if it had harmed the baby that it would have miscarried. i have already had two ultra sounds and every thing is going great so far.
I was having alot of dental problems during this last pregnancy, so I had to have an x-ray done the dentis put two of the lead aprons on me. It ended up I need three root canals and some fillings.
you can get them of your head as long as they cover your belley with those protector shield but no x rays of the belly
I had an CT Scan of my chest/ lungs when I was pregnant. I was 35 weeks, and had a plurisy infection that they thought could be a clot. I was a little scared, but my son is totally fine. Plus the doctor said that he was technically full term already, and some babies in the NICU get x-rays daily. They did put a lead cover on my stomach to protect the baby so, no worries.
I am 8 weeks pregnant and just had a CT scan of my chest a week ago. The doctor thought I might have a PE. They shielded me and everything but I am still concerned that the baby will not be okay. The doctor told me the benifits outweigh the risk and because they sheiled me everything should be okay. I am not sure.
