I saw the preview to the movie Away We Go starring Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski -- two actors who I really love. Maybe it's because I am pregnant right now, but I really want to see the film. Note: I hardly ever go to the movies.
Written by authors Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, a real life couple while they were expecting their first child, Away We Go is directed by Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road).
My husband had read a bad review for the film, but with those people involved, it has to be great.
The couple, Burt and Verona (John and Maya), share the baby news with their parents, only to learn they are moving to Antwerp, Belgium, the month before the baby is born. That leaves Burt and Verona feeling like they should move somewhere near to other family and friends, so they go on a road trip to find the best place for them to call home.
There are a lot of moments in the trailer where my eyes welled up with tears. It may have been the Alexi Murdoch song (we played his music our wedding), but when Verona says something along the lines of "all we have to do is be good for this baby" I had to blink five times fast to control the waterworks.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is in the film, too. And she apparently doesn't like strollers, preferring to only carry her baby. She says, "Why would I want to push them away from me?"
There's a tender moment of Burt and Verona in bed and Burt says, "I'll love you forever even if it takes you months to lose this weight."
It seems to have it's funny moments, but it's serious and tender. The couple asks themselves if they are screw ups, they realize they are changing, and are learning what they are about to become.
Check out the clip (I added a new one that hopefully works). Are you interested in seeing Away We Go?
