This sweet photo isn't an ultrasound pic but it wasn't long ago that the baby was still in utero -- it was taken at one week old!
There's nothing better, though, than getting sneak peeks at your babe while he's still in the belly. I didn't have a 3D ultrasound done, but I can see the appeal -- it's like a detailed advance preview of the little person who's about to change your life. And lots of CafeMoms are chatting about them.
What about you? Are you having a 3D or 4D ultrasound done?

I didn't have one with my first child because money was too tight, but after seeing my sister's 3D Ultrasound I MUST have one done with my current pregnancy! Lucky for me my regular ultrasound with my son at 22 weeks, he was so cooperative with us that we got some great images of him, even a closeup of his sweet little face that made it really easy to tell what he looked like!
I had 2 of them done with my pregnancy, there's a local place that does them for a great price ($80 on your first visit and then $60 if you come back again) plus you get a DVD of the whole thing, a CD with about 20 or so still shots, and a gift bag with some goodies and coupons in it. The only thing I was disappointed about was that my little guy was being stubborn during BOTH... he didn't want to move to let us get a really good look at his face, so we got a few profile shots, but I was still pleased with the whole experience!
I'm getting one, but only because my Drs. office does a complimentary one at 28 weeks. I never had one, or the desire to have one, with my first.
I chose yes but it wasn't to see as much of her as I could. It was ordered by my dr to make sure dates were right because I was measuring about 4 weeks smaller than I should have. Turned out that she was just really small and still is. If I ever have another baby I will probably get one done because it was pretty awesome to see her before she got here. Now I wish I wold have had one done with my older 2.
We got one when I was pregnant, my only advice would be to ask ahead of time if they will let you have a free "re-try" if your baby is completely uncooperative. My son had his knees up and his hands totally over his face and would not move no matter how hard we tried, they were really nice and let us come back another day and try again for free and it turned out much better.
I wish I could get it done, but there's no way we could afford even the cheap one. Would be neat though!
Good tip, aurorabunny -- thank you! :)
I wanted one with my first daughter but we really didn't have the money for it. When she was about 2 months old I saw an ad in the paper that was giving away free 3d ultrasounds so the upcoming techs could practice with the equipment. Awesome timing, huh?
I want one with this pregnancy now but once again we just don't have the money to put to it. Also I would really feel guilty for having one done since I was unable to with my oldest. Sounds kind of crazy, ya, but it's just the way it feels.
My dr has a machine in the office and I got one done the past three visits. thank god my insurance pays for it. I don't really see the big deal about them. it still looks like a blur to me, my kids must not take good pics because I had the same problem with my son last year.
If I could've afforded it I definitely would've gotten one. As it was during my regular ultrasound the tech did do a little bit of 3-D with it and took a pic for us so that was cool.
