A friend of mine landed in the hospital this week with signs of preterm labor but, thankfully, not experiencing contractions. It is looking like she might be placed on bed rest, though.
It's not uncommon for a woman to be placed on bed rest for a portion of her pregnancy and it can happen for a variety of reasons, from high blood pressure to concerns over carrying multiples. Here are some ideas for coping with bed rest.
Tell me, have you, or has someone you know, been placed on bed rest? Share what the reason was, and for how long, in the comments below.

When I was pregnant with my first I was put on bed rest around 30 weeks. Since I was 2 cm.I had my first at 37 weeks 2 days since I hit 4 cm.
With my second I was put on bedrest at 25 weeks since I was 3 cm. I had him at 34 weeks. I was induced at 5 cm.
I have never been on bed rest, but I think it would drive me nuts!!
I go crazy just being sick for a few days :)
I haven't. And honestly, I don't think I could manage to do it properly with a 1 year old and 5 year old at home. I might manage a little bit, but it would be HARD.
I was put on bed rest at 7 weeks due to having a subchrionic hemorrhage, which meant the baby wasn't attached well and I had a high chance of loosing it. It was tough being home by myself all day but thankfully I had a laptop so I could look around online a lot and I watched a lot of television too. It got old really fast but I would do it again if I had to just to make sure the baby was okay. Thankfully things got better and about 3 months later they upgraded me so I could get up and about a little bit more than I had been allowed to before.
I'm 31&1/2wks prego with twins and I'm on semi-bedrest...I'm suppose to sit or lay down most of the day.Sucks cuz I have 4 others at home that I have to take care of! Plus my hubby is in the Army and is gone for a mth(only 1 more wk left)so it's just me.Plus we have a large dog!LOL Not the funnest pregnancy so far....but it'll be done soon!!Yay!
I got put on bed rest at my 31 week appointment due to high blood presure issues, and I'll be on it til I'm induced on June 15th. It isn't too horrible, but there's only so much internet to browse and TV to watch, I'm getting bored! And as much as I love sleeping and taking naps, I'm tired of those too! (I never thought I'd say that in my life!)
got put on bed rest and pelvic rest off and on throughout my pregnancy, mostly due to bleeding from placenta previa.
wwas on bedrest three months ,three times due to preterm labor it ws nuts and the meds. make you nuts in my forth p.g. I actually thought the carpete fuzzys were crawlling to get me my mom helped alot but miraculiciy three of the kids are ok one didn't make it It makes me appreciate my kids
bed rest was not fun my husband work alot so i spent most of my time doing art and crafts and reading. was so board
I was put on bedrest for the last 2 weeks. I had been having contractions since 28 weeks, but wasn't in actual labor so they refused to give me anything to stop them. Ds dropped straight onto my sciatic nerve at 30 weeks, and I could barely stand or walk as a result. My OBs wanted to put me on bedrest at 32 weeks, but we couldn't afford it. I had a job that required me to be on my feet for 8 hours straight, and I finally agreed to be put on bedrest when I couldn't take it anymore.
