Birds could be a cute nature-inspired nursery idea.
When we were decorating the nursery for our daughter, named Magnolia, we hung a pretty vintage picture of a magnolia we'd found on a trip to Austin years before we knew we'd have a daughter with that name.
And hanging that piece of art was just about the only thing I enjoyed about getting her nursery ready. And we did that after she was already here....
With our first child, Jasper, we took our time and obsessed over every decision -- the crib, the bedding, the art, the color we painted the walls. The planning was fun! And everything was ready when he arrived.
With baby number two, I was more stressed and crazy-busy, and decorating the nursery felt more like a chore -- a task that was hanging over my head -- than something I really wanted to do.

The only thing I was really obsessive about was the paint - I knew I wanted to paint clouds on the ceiling. The crib, dresser etc, I didn't enjoy picking out. It's the first room in my house I've redecorated, and I was excited at first, but now I feel overwhelmed.
I would do them all the time if I could!!!
I really went overboard with Rocco's nursery and loved every minute of it. I loved picking out the paint colors, wallpaper border, matching bedding and accessories, and the furniture. Once he was born, I loved buying personalized items with his name and birthdate to really make it his room. Two years later, I am still adding things to his room. It's my favorite room in the house. Like jkruehmann, I would do them all the time if I could. We should start a business, lol.
where in austin?
Well, I'm an interior designer, so I love decorating any and everything. Our son's nursery has a HUGE underwater wall mural, and I have no idea where I'm going to go with this one.
I am a terrible decorator and the only thing I knew about decorating the nursery is I didn't want to waste money on overpriced things and I didn't want to be slave to a theme. So, we had the crib in there, dressers people had stored in our house (and later took back), bright colors, and a mix- dragons and dragonflies and fantasy prints for DD and Pooh and trains for DS. Nothing else, except some toys. They never seemed to care that they didn't have matching valance, crib bumpers, comforter, etc.... which is just as well because neither DH nor I is capable of that sort of design. We are more numbers/analytical people.
Hey, gottwinsandone, I bought the magnolia picture at Uncommon Objects on South Congress -- I LOVE that store! I go every time I'm in town, and will definitely be going again when I'm there in a couple of weeks.... :)
I LOVED decorating my son's nursery and still love making improvements to it (pictures are in albums on my profile). I also started a group for people who love to decorate their nursery! (See my groups on my profile for that too).
i wish i could do a nursery. i had all of my stuff for it but circumstances changed. I was really looking foward to the experience.
