Having a new baby is fabulous -- congratulations to Punkylu78 on the arrival of her new babe! -- but it's also overwhelming. I remember that strange mix of exhaustion and elation we felt when we brought our first baby home. We needed help. And we were so grateful to friends and family who "got it" and were there to give a hand -- or, better yet, a meal.
From cookiemag.com, here are some great ways to help out a new mom -- consider emailing the list to friends and the fam.
Ways to Help a New Mom
-- But us toilet paper, milk, and nice bread.
-- Make us a big supper salad or buy us a frozen lasagna, salad in a bag, and some garlic bread. Drop it off and leave right away.
-- Come over at about two in the afternoon and hold the baby while I have a hot shower, or put me to bed with the baby and then fold all of the laundry that's piled up on the couch or on the bed. If there's no laundry to fold, do some.
-- Come over at 10am and make me eggs and toast. Clean my fridge and throw out everything you are in doubt about.
-- Take my older kids for an afternoon in the park or the zoo and feed them healthy food.
-- Make me a big pot of vegetable soup and clean the kitchen completely afterwards.
I love this, don't you? And I *know* I loved the people who brought dinner over when we had our first baby -- sometimes even with homemade cookies for dessert! Thank you, Betsy and Dean!
And then fruit and veggies from the farmers' market with the second -- love you, Helen and Alfred!
