Cute Ways to Tell the News

by The Stir Bloggers on April 9, 2009 at 4:23 PM

When I was pregnant with our second baby, I told my mom around Christmas. So I sent her a wrapped present that held a silver fortune cookie with a sonogram pic and a note inside that said "You'll be a grandmother again soon!" She called crying and all excited -- it was pretty sweet!

I asked moms in the Pregnancy group to share ideas on cute ways to tell the news. Here's how a few spilled the beans.

I made a T-shirt for my 2-year-old to wear. On the front, it said "I'm going to be" and on the back, it said "a big sister." It took a minute for everyone to read the whole thing, but it was fun. I had her wear it at Thanksgiving dinner. -- LexisMom1226200

When I was pregnant with my third, mom my and I took the other two kids (2 years old and 9 months) sledding. I dressed my oldest in a onesie that said "Big Sister X's 2" and the baby in one that said "Oh, no, I'm the middle child." I let my mom undress the kids when we came in. At first she just looked at me funny, but when she got to the baby she flipped. She was so excited! -- Kory0612

With our first, we were going out to dinner with his family and mine to celebrate our birthdays. We had an announcement made and put it in the menus at the restaurant. Since we all sat down together, everyone saw it at the same time. -- 787BabyMom

I knew a couple who took pictures of themselves around Christmas time and took them to show their families. They let their families flip through the pictures and, at the back, they had put in a photo of themselves holding a sign that said "We're pregnant!" -- vikaroo18

I told my in-laws on Valentines Day. I got boxes of chocolate and opened them. Then I cut hearts that fit in the lids, and wrote on them "You're gonna be a Grandpa/Grandma again" on the paper. They gave me a weird look when they noticed the chocolates were opened (they probably figured the kids got into them) but when they opened them and read the note, they started shouting. It was awesome!!!!

I found out that I was having twins right before christmas so I got a card that said congradulations on your twins and I put an ultra sound picture in it. I had my honey open it at his families christmas party infront of everyone. It was really cute!

We told our families at Christmas that we were expecting our first.  I bought pretty picture frames and printed a poem I found on the internet and gave them to all of the grandparents-to-be. Everyone cried, it was so sweet! I don't know who wrote the peom, but this is the one I used:

I do not have a face to see,
    Or put inside this frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
    I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands,
    Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
    Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come (month due),
That’s when they say I'm due.
    I'm your new grandson or granddaughter;
    I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we'll know.
So what I have to give you now,
Is a wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
    Of this wonderful family.

I am pregnant with our 3rd and we told everyone at Christmas.  We bought one of those clocks that you can put a pic in for each hour.  So I filled the clock with pics of all the grand kids and left a space for My new neice-to-be with her name and then a space for us-it said Baby and then our last name.  they started out at 12 and worked there way around.  We were at 9pm and they passed it and then went around the clock again-stared at us and they screamed and then cried.  It was the BEST!  Everyone could not beleive it and it was in front of the whole immediate family.  My MIL must of held me and cried for at least a good 5 minutes.  It has been 5 years since my last child and they all could not wiat for me to try for a girl.
