Some mamas-to-be have it bad and some have it not so bad - but almost all women have to deal with at least some morning sickness, especially early in their pregnancies. What really works when you're feeling like you're gonna toss your cookies? Read on.

We asked other moms who've been there what really works -- here's what we heard.

Atragedy999 recommends ginger root tablets (but warns that they don't smell so great.) Ginger comes in many forms, though, and it's widely known to combat nausea -- you could also try ginger candies and crystallized ginger.

Chrissy0918 says that two things worked for her -- sucking on sour candies like lemonheads and ice breaker sours. And also popping Preggie Pop Drops.

Kestrel1 has a more open-ended approach -- she says to find the "one food" that works for you. Hers? Noodles. She'd cook regular meals for her family and then head out of the room with her bowl full of noodles so she didn't have to contend with the smell of the other foods.

gacgbaker, owner of the Pregnancy group, had lots of suggestions -- try eating small meals throughout the day instead of three larger ones, and keep crackers or another snack right by your bed so that you have something to reach for first thing in the morning. Sliced apples can work -- and actually slicing lemons (the fresh smell) helps others. Stay hydrated! Think about your toothpaste -- and switch if it's a trigger for your nausea. And her personal, number one thing that did the trick? Slurpees!

allieC1126 says to go with bland foods -- hers were crackers, fruit, English muffins and Popsicles. She also recommends one of my tips -- don't let yourself get hungry. (Semi-continual munching was a huge help to me.)

Barbara Sellars, a midwife at CBS Midwifery in New York, recommends that moms try the following: frequent intake of carbs (now you have an excuse!), those pressure point wristbands available for motion sickness (they worked for allieC1126), vitamin B6, under the guidance of your own doctor, of course (start with 50 mgs once a day for three days; if no improvement, try 50 mgs twice a day for three days; if still no improvement, try 100 mgs twice a day. If that doesn't help, give it up!). Most important, she says, "Don't feel guilty about your diet. Your baby will not be born a bagel if that's all you can eat for those first few weeks of morning sickness."

Of course, talk to your doctor about how you're feeling and get his input, too. Sellars also suggests that if your prenatal vitamin is making you sicker, you might ask your OB about just taking a folic acid supplement early on and then switching back to the vitamin when you're feeling better.
