Infant Swing: Take It or Leave It?

Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Swing,

Alright, ladies -- time for Take It or Leave It. Last week I asked if you had a bottle drying rack on your baby registry, and most moms said nah -- they were skipping it. This week it's a baby swing.

I used a bouncy seat but never a swing -- but I knew plenty of moms who said they couldn't live without theirs.

Item: Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Cradle Swing

Cost: $120 for this model; about $60 - $140 for swings in general, depending on brand, model, and special features

What it does: Soothes baby with a rocking motion; entertains with music and a motorized mobile.

Pros: If your baby likes it, it provides another option for keeping him busy and happy.

Cons: Swings are pricey and take up a lot of space.

OMG. In my house, the swing was MANDATORY for BOTH of my kids. NOTHING put them to sleep the way that the swing did.

Yes! My daughter loved hers! I lent it someone and it wasn't returned to me. But I would really like to get another one for the new addition.

the swing was a great way to get a few minutes of alone time when my baby was really little. Now that she's bigger she'd rather play in the saucer or jumper, but for the first 5 months that swing was like GOLD

I had a swing upstairs and downstairs. I had a portable one upstairs that folded away nicely and then the one downstairs is bigger and harder to store, but it makes baby happy so I like it :-D!

I had one for my son when he was little...now he is a little over a year old he is in his Jumperoo all the time. But before he outgrew it, the swing, all the time...we will definatly get one this time around.

I got the exact swing you have the picture of - for $50 off Craigslist. You can't even tell that it's not brand new.

My kiddo's swing SAVED MY LIFE, LOL. We had a little "travel" swing, and if I put it in the bathroom, the swinging plus the white noise of the shower often was the only way my kiddo would LET me shower.

I used a swing for all three babies, usually just to take a shower in the morning though

We had the exact swing pictured and the travel swing version of the same one. We didn't use the travel swing much but the one in the pic (full sized one) was a LIFESAVER! For a loooong time it was the only thing my son would nap in.

Swings are awesome - my son loved his as an infant! You can buy smaller fold-up models...and I highly recommend buying them used. Much cheaper and that way you can afford to find out if your baby likes them or not.

I'd take it but I could leave it just the same. I love my son's swing (he has the Graco Lovin' Hug Swing in Catalina print) and he likes it too. It has a 5 point harness as well as a snap-in tray that are both a pain (and he gets impatient while we fidget with it to get him in) but once he's in it he is happy. He has a bouncy seat that he loves just as much that's easier to get him in and out of so the swing doesn't always get used that much.
