I'm following a first-time pregnant mom bam61907 on her exciting journey from bump to baby. Check back every Wednesday for the latest developments!
What's Happening with Mom: This past week we had our big second trimester ultrasound and we found out we're having a girl!
When they took me back for my appointment, the technician said Justin couldn't come back for the first part, which would be a full body scan to make sure the baby was measuring as she should. Getting all of the measurements took about an hour -- the baby was moving around non-stop, so it was difficult for the technician to get good pictures.
The woman asked if we wanted to know the sex and I said yes, but not until Justin was in the room. So after the measurements were done, she went to get him. The baby had settled down and the technician was pointing out an arm here, a leg there, a foot, and then she started to check the gender. I was watching her and I said ITS A GIRL -- and she confirmed it! I looked at Justin and I could see he was happy but also a little bummed he didn't get the boy he was hoping for.
It was a happy day, but there were also some scares. Right after the technician started the ultrasound, she asked who gave me my due date and I told her my midwife. Then she said that sometimes when women look small for how far along they are it's because the baby is small -- I started getting scared that the baby wasn't measuring up to date. But by the end of the ultrasound it turned out she was measuring exactly as she should be.
The technician also had two doctors come in and look at the pictures -- they were using doctor lingo about the brain and kidney stones and a dilated kidney. I started to cry. I said just tell me if something is wrong, but they reassured me that everything was fine and the pictures that the technician snapped were distorted because the baby was in the middle of a big movement, so they wanted to see the baby live on the ultrasound just to make sure.
It was such a relief! The doctors said, too, that it definitely looks like a girl!
Another exciting thing was that Justin's parents bought all of the nursery furniture. That was a big help -- and I can't wait to have everything delivered!
What's Happening with Baby: I weigh around 3/4 of a pound and am about the size of a banana. I'm practicing swallowing and my bone marrow is producing blood cells. My fat stores are continuing to accumulate and my movements -- kick! -- are noticeably stronger.
Question of the Week from Pregnancy:
I have two DDs and I'm pregnant with our third child. I thought it would be a great surprise for me and the rest of the family to wait until the birth to find out the sex. Anyone else waiting? -- NiahandAvasmama
This is my fourth pregnancy and it will be the second time we've waiting to find out. It was so much fun not knowing with baby #3 that we decided to do it again! -- Daisymae6
I want to find out for sure! I'm a planner and I want to know what to buy. -- punksjs
Are you finding out the sex, as Brittany did, or are you going to wait?
