Singer Erykah Badu and rapper SO Jay Electronica welcomed a new baby over the weekend, daughter Mars Merkaba. The baby is Badu's third child, and her first with Electronica -- they sent frequent updates during the birth via Twitter, the blogging site.
Badu delivered drug-free with a midwife at her home in Brooklyn, with Electronica and her two other children -- son Seven, 10, and daughter Puma, 4 -- at her side.
"Morning, I'm in labor," she announced Sunday to her followers on Twitter. The couple Tweeted more details throughout the day, and announced their daughter's name a few days later via Twitter, too.

geez im all for unique names but the celebs take it too far... mars is not the worst ive heard heard but still poor girl.. and WTH is up with that nm.. hey its there child though not mine... but at least they can call her m&m for short lol
I like mars.. but not for a girl.. good for her keeping the updates on her own terms tho!!
Mars is traditionally a boy's name... but whatever floats her boat. I'm not really into unusual names. I might agree to send out updates online, although they wouldn't be a whole story lol. Labor was actually fairly uneventful for me.. quite the opposite of what I expected.
Who cares about the name. Yay for homebirth! It's wonderful to see the celebs taking charge of thier birth experiences.
I think all her kids names are a bit off! As for updating friends and family...I sent text messages while I was on the way to the hospital. I was in HARD labor and texting. In fact, I sent my last text at 12:40 am and he was born (in my car in the ambulance bay) at 12:50 am. So, I don't have a problem with sending the updates!
Wow...good for her doing it drug free and at home!! That is great. I do have to say that the names of ALL three kids are really weird...Seven?? Puma?? (mean) and Mars?? Hmmm....Well they are her kids, so I guess what ever flips her skirt......
I'm not a huge fan of the name, but I'm sure a lot of people don't like my son's name either. :) Hooray for HOMEBIRTHS!!!

I just gave a presentation in my computer science class today on twitter! Now I'm seeing it everywhere, I'm 'miradee' if anyone else has it ; )
