When You Can Find Out the Sex

finding out the sex

I did a poll a while back asking how many of you were planning on finding out the sex of your baby, and 75% of moms who answered said they were. I wanted to know if we were having a boy or girl, too, with both of our babies. And I know bam61907, with whom I catch up with weekly for the pregnancy calendar, is looking forward to learning the sex in the not-too-distant future.

You can always try our Gender Predictor. But for more official notification, how soon can you find out?

Kerrie15 asked moms in Pregnancy how far along they were when they found out the sex, and most said between 18 - 22 weeks, although a few learned as early as 14 - 16 weeks.

How can you determine the gender? Two tests that check for genetic abnormalities -- CVS (chorionic villus sampling) and amniocentesis -- will reveal the sex.

But it's more common for moms to learn the gender through an ultrasound. Most women will undergo a scan between 18 - 20 weeks to evaluate the fetal anatomy and, if your baby cooperates and provides a nice view of his/her privates, a technician can usually determine the sex then.

Did you find out the sex of your baby? When and how did you get the news?

we found out with our first and second from ultrasounds.  Both boys.  3rd time around we chose not to find out.  Thought that if we did have another boy it would be more fun to find out at the birth.  Surprise surprise baby came an she's a girls!

We have three kids... we chose not to find out with any of them.  Ironically, the first time I was pg I really wanted to know... unfortunately I never got far enough in my pregnancy to find out.  After that I really focused on just seeing a healthy baby.  After the first baby my dh was more willing to find out the sex, but I was hooked on the big 'reveal' at the moment of birth so we were suprised twice more!  I can understand wanting to know and honestly I was on the fence with  my third baby, but at the same time actually SEEING my baby and hearing my dh tell me the gender at the birth was such a sweet moment I have no regrets.

Im pregnant now and Im DYING to know. My next appointment is Feb 4th and I'll be 17 weeks then. So I may find out, I may not. This anticipation is terrible!

With my daughter, I didn't know about my pregnancy until later into it so at my frist appointment they were able to tell me! You can imagine I'm dying right now. =)

My first we could not find out. Every ultrasound (about 3-4) the baby would cross its legs and turn its back on us. So we just gave up and decided not to get a 4D ultrasound (we were desperate to find out but its expensive) and we just waited till it was born. It was a girl!! Now with my second baby, im now 14 weeks tomorrow and im counting down the weeks till we get to find out if my little girl with have a baby brother or sister. I'm so anxious to know but i hope i find out right away. I'll be finding out Feb 24th two days before my daughters 2nd birthday.

We waited till the birth both times. I was sure I was having a boy the first time -- and we did! The second time I was also convinced of a boy -- but got a girl. It was fun, but we really had to scramble at the last minute to come up with girl names ...

I went in at 20 weeks to find out the sex, but she was absolutely not cooperating. So, when I went in for my 24 week visit we looked again. And still, she had her little butt down on my bladder and her legs crossed.

Yesterday I went in to get a work release form from my midwife signed and she went ahead and let me see the sonagrapher again. I told her I thought the baby had moved head down and sure enough, she had!

So, though I'm sure we would have been able to tell at 20, I didn't find out the sex until 25 weeks.
