When You Can Find Out the Sex

I did a poll a while back asking how many of you were planning on finding out the sex of your baby, and 75% of moms who answered said they were. I wanted to know if we were having a boy or girl, too, with both of our babies. And I know bam61907, with whom I catch up with weekly for the pregnancy calendar, is looking forward to learning the sex in the not-too-distant future.

You can always try our Gender Predictor. But for more official notification, how soon can you find out?

Kerrie15 asked moms in Pregnancy how far along they were when they found out the sex, and most said between 18 - 22 weeks, although a few learned as early as 14 - 16 weeks.

How can you determine the gender? Two tests that check for genetic abnormalities -- CVS (chorionic villus sampling) and amniocentesis -- will reveal the sex.

But it's more common for moms to learn the gender through an ultrasound. Most women will undergo a scan between 18 - 20 weeks to evaluate the fetal anatomy and, if your baby cooperates and provides a nice view of his/her privates, a technician can usually determine the sex then.

Did you find out the sex of your baby? When and how did you get the news?
