As frightening as horror movies can be, we just can't get enough of the chills we feel creep up our spines and the urge to let out a good scream when we watch them. Scary flicks remind us to double-check locked doors, close our blinds at night, look in the back seat of our cars, and sprint to our front doors should we hear rustling in the bushes. And what else do horror movies inspire? Baby names.

So the next time it's decided the family is going to cuddle up and watch a scary movie, make sure to grab a pen and pencil. One just might come across a character whose name is perfect for a son or daughter -- or day we say, a little BOO or little ghoul! (Okay, we'll stop now).

Here's a rundown of some of our favorite baby names inspired by classic and modern horror films. These jeepers creepers may have given us a fright in their films, but IRL there are some good names that will inspire the Halloween feeling all year long.

Regan

If your child starts walking down the stairs upside down -- or puking green goo -- you might want to seek professional help. We can only hope anyone who chooses the baby name Regan won't relive The Exorcist in real life. It is a pretty awesome unisex baby name, so give it a try.

Wes

There's no way we could talk about baby names and horror movies and NOT bring up the legend known as Wes Craven. The mastermind behind the *Nightmare on Elm Street* franchise, Craven also directed the Screammovies, which always seem to stir up that oh so famous line: "What's your favorite scary movie?" (Eeek!) Sadly, Wes Craven passed away in 2015, but his legacy will live on, both in film and with the adorable baby name Wes.

3/23

Alessa

Although this little girl did have a good reason to be pissed off in *Silent Hill*, the characters and creatures in her squad are things nightmares are made of. (No, seriously.) Still, Alessa is a cute baby name option for a little girl. Just make sure you don't ever get on your daughter's bad side.

4/23

Brody

In need of an adorable baby name? Try Brody! Not only is this name gender neutral, but Brody also happens to be the name of protagonist Police Chief Martin Brody in the epic Spielberg movie *Jaws*.

Laurie

Don't let the name Laurie fool you. It's a classic choice for a baby, but it's also one of survivor and total badass Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in*Halloween*. To say she had a few issues with her sibling would be putting it things lightly. Y'all need a timeout!

6/23

Kemper

Word to the wise: Should you ever stumble across a creepy house in the middle of the woods, don't go inside. Poor Kemper (Eric Balfour) is going to have a serious headache for all eternity in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And while his strength doesn't stand a chance against Leatherface, the name Kemper is pretty powerful.

7/23

Venna

Don't you hate it when other people's drama suddenly becomes your own? It's such a shame Venna got caught up in the craziness in the movie *Joy Ride*. She wasn't the one who participated in the practical joke and look what happens to her!

Before you try to find a pair of scissors to pass through the television, do make sure you jot down the name Venna as an option for your daughter.

8/23

Freddy/Freddie

One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, you better lock your door. Stop! We can't take it! Anyone who loves horror movies knows Freddy Krueger is an OG in the game. Terrorizing teens throughout theNightmare on Elm Street franchise, Freddie makes you think twice about trying to get a good night's sleep. We just love the name Freddy -- or Freddie, should you want to switch up the spelling. It's classic and awesome for a boy or girl.

9/23

Blair

Who knows what the heck the Blair witch looks like in The Blair Witch Project, but we'll tell you one thing -- you couldn't pay us to find out. Even though a group of fictitious filmmaking hopefuls went off into the woods to find a fictitious sorceress, you gotta admit that The Blair Witch Project gave you chills ... and possibly made you want to blow your nose. For this reason, the name Blair definitely earns a spot on our list of baby names.

10/23

Loren

How much would someone have to pay you to spend the night inside of a haunted house? Millionaire Frederick Loren (Vincent Price) gave this very challenge to five strangers in The House on Haunted Hill that took a ghastly turn for the worse. Frederick can definitely keep his money (and his haunted house), though we'll take the baby name Loren.

11/23

Delilah

The name Delilah might be Hebrew for "delicate," but Jordana Brewster's character in*The Faculty* was anything but nice. In fact, Delilah was your quintessential high school mean girl who, thankfully, was able to walk down the road to redemption -- even if her teachers started turning into creepy alien people.

12/23

Damien

Unless you believe in superstitions -- that include not naming your child after someone who's likely the son of the Devil -- the name Damien is a perfect choice for your little boy. Sure, this Damien had issues listening and caused some chaos in The Omen, but you have to admit he is kinda cute. (Trying to stay positive here.)

13/23

Samara

Viral videos are great -- funny even -- but not all deserve to be seen. Anyone who watched a mysterious video tape in The Ring had seven days before this awesome gal made a personal visit to their homes. Let's just say, it wasn't the happily ever after they were expecting. As troubling as Samara was in The Ring, her name is too perfect to pass up.

14/23

Norman

If you ever stay at a hotel run by a man named Norman Bates, please run. Anthony Perkins gave us chills in the horror classic Psycho, which likely made every woman fearful to take a shower. As scary as the Alfred Hitchcock film was, the name Norman is pretty cute for a baby.

15/23

Rosemary

Rosemary is a fragrant baby name that often evokes thoughts of cooking a savory meal. Sounds delicious, right? Just keep thinking those finger-licking thoughts as Rosemary is also the main character in the horror movie Rosemary's Baby -- and there's nothing pleasant about that film.

16/23

Bishop

Everyone needs a go-to friend who's resourceful. And should said friend happen to be an android, hey, why not? Bishop (Lance Henriksen) did his best to fit in with others on the U.S.S. Sulaco in Aliens -- including Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), whom he desperately tried to help. Bishop is a good friend and makes for a great baby name option.

17/23

Brennan

Poor, poor Father Brennan. All this man wanted to do is warn a family that the child they love to call son is likely the Antichrist. Although this priest's luck ran out in *The Omen*, the name Brennan is an adorable choice for a boy or girl.

18/23

Mina

Even though *Braum Stoker's Dracula* wasn't *too* scary (it actually had a ton of romance in it), it did involve a rather infamous character -- so let's roll with it. Winona Ryder became the apple of Dracula's eye and had a pretty cool name in the movie. Mina. Come on, how cute is that?

19/23

Cole

Monsters in the closet are the least of this kid's worries. Cole (Haley Joel Osment) might be a kid in The Sixth Sense, but this little boy sees dead people ... like, FOR REAL. Who knows if children with the name Cole develop the same abilities (they likely won't), but here's yet another baby name to add to your shortlist.

20/23

Tatum

All of us have that one friend who calls BS when she sees it and keeps it real. That was Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan) in Scream, who probably should've paid a little more attention to her boyfriend throughout the film (just sayin'). Regardless of her ability to spot serial killers, the name Tatum is a cool choice for a son or daughter.

21/23

Dewey

Speaking of Tatum, in the movie *Scream*, she had an older brother named Dewey (David Arquette), who was both the town deputy and the film's comedic relief. Should you be searching for baby names that will make you squeal with glee, do give Dewey a try.

22/23

Star

Cult classics, like The Lost Boys, hold a special place in our hearts. After all, who doesn't love thoughts of strolling a boardwalk with thrill rides and warm breezes flowing through your hair? Who cares about pesky vampires. (Actually, we do.) One gal who wanted to keep protagonists on the straight and narrow was Star (Jami Gertz). Both a shining beauty on the inside and out, Star is a baby name idea that's out of this world.

Seth

There are two things *The Fly* taught us: Don't try crazy scientific experiments, and do not eat watching this movie. To say it's gross is an understatement. As yucky as Jeff Goldblum's transformation in this movie was, we happen to enjoy his character's name, Seth.
