Most Popular Baby Names By State

The annual release date of the Social Security Administration's baby name data is like a small holiday in some circles (we were certainly celebrating around here), and we've been waiting all week for the SSA to release its baby name data by state. And today's the day! Hurrah! Pop the champagne!


The national data for 2014 was released last week and it pointed at Emma, Olivia, and Sophia as the most popular names for girls, and Noah, Liam, and Mason the biggest for boys last year.

So which states followed the pack? Which were the revolutionaries? Today we find out!

The full list on the SSA website ranks the top five baby names for each state from 2014, but here's the number one most popular baby name for each state (and Washington, D.C.).


Olivia: Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming

Emma: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia

Sophia: Arizona, Deleware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia
