Pre-Natal Nurturing

When I was pregnant with my first baby, I have to admit, I was a little overly excited. I constantly referred to an ever-growing stack of baby books on my bedside table, I devoured parenting magazines and I was completely captivated by websites that offered free advice on this terrifying, yet amazing, next phase of my life.

I was determined to be the best mom ever. I imagined myself being fearless in my frenzy, controlled in my chaos and the go-to friend who would have all the answers to babyhood and beyond.

When I was pregnant, I kept copious records. I weighed myself once a week, at the same time, in the same attire and made a chart. I wrote down how I was feeling, physically and emotionally. I took pictures of my bulging belly in the mirror. I wrote love poems to my unborn baby.

Yes, I was one of those pregnant women.

And I loved every minute of it!

And, once my baby girl was born, it was just as I dreamed it would be. She became my whole reason for living and a whole new reason for doing laundry!

Which got me to thinking back to my baby shower. I got some really great gifts and tons of adorable outfits – all of which I immediately washed with my regular detergent and hung in the closet. But, how great would it have been to be introduced to some “real” baby products at my shower?

You simply don’t think about stuff like clothes detergent before your baby is born. But once she’s actually wearing those itty bitty outfits, you know that you want a hypoallergenic detergent that gets them super clean and smelling fresh. Along with diapers and onesies, I think everyone should put Dreft Stage 1: Newborn on their gift registry list! That way, all new moms will be able to get a head start on the endless but necessary labor of love called laundry.

What was your pregnancy like?
