Mom Gives Birth to 4 Kids in 9 Months

Have ever had a surprise pregnancy? Chances are, it wasn’t this shocking: a British mom found out she was preggers with triplets nine weeks after giving birth to her son. She delivered four babies in nine months. Forget coffee … that mom needs an IV of caffeine. I would even advocate for pumping and dumping after a glass of wine as needed.

Sarah Ward was still rocking maternity clothes after the birth of her son when she learned she was expecting again. She was floored because she had an extremely difficult time conceiving the first time around … and who really expects back-to-back pregnancies? One of the perks of pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding is a period sabbatical, right?

More from The Stir: First Period After Baby: What to Expect

Er, maybe not.

Moms like Sarah serve as a precautionary tale to the rest of us: it is possible to get pregnant right after baby ... even if you have had trouble in the past. I have several friends who wound up with a surprise second or third child because they thought they needed IVF to conceive. Something happens after you give birth sometimes that can make you Michelle Duggar-like ... so beware!

All that said, Sarah's pregnancies are pretty miraculous anyway you look at it. Incredible that her that her body was capable of such a feat, that her heart could handle the shock, that her babies are all healthy. When my kids are driving me crazy and I want to pull my hair out strand by strand, I will think of Sarah and her four kids under age 1 at bath time. That thought alone will get me through the day.

Have you had back-to-back pregnancies? How far apart are your kids?

"One of the perks of pregnancy, delivery, and breastfeeding is a period sabbatical, right?" Really...wow. Do women not even know how their bodies work? You don't need a period to get pregnant!!! You can ovulate without a period. OF COURSE you can get pregnant 4 weeks after. Good lord. I can't believe people are surprised that sex produces babies.

Blue I agree with you!

I can't believe people are this stupid.

You can get pregnant while breastfeeding, and on birth control. And specialising after having a baby.

14 months apart, because it snowed to much to make it to the DRs for my 2nd Depo shot. I want lots of kids and I don't want them to far apart but I don't plan to have them that close again. At least a 21 months apart LOL.

I knew the risk of not being protected but when you have a new born and wake up to 4' of snow and a morning apt you stay home and keep baby safe, by the next apt I could get I was pregnant and was happy to hear it.

I have two kids 11 months apart.  I had fertility issues with the first and was told I would not get pregnant without the same interventions.  Dh and I were using condoms and by 12 weeks postpartum I was pregnant with my second.  So much for not needing to worry about fertility.

My 1st and 2nd are only 11 months apart. We tried for 3+ years for our first and didn't think it would happen so quickly.

I have 3 kids, 3 years and under (plus I had a miscarriage in between 2 and 3). So fertility was obviously no longer a issue ;) Lol.

I have 4 children. The oldest are 7 and 6. They are only 11 and months apart. I love that they have had each other to grow up with. I also decided to have one more after that and ended up with twins. So now each have their own to grow up with and play with.

18 months. We tried for 4 years and had our twins through ivf. When they were 9 months old we found out we were expecting #3. We dust think we could conceive without the same procedures. Guess that wasn't the case. After #3, I went on mirena. About a year later, we had it removed and within 2 months were pregnant with 4. I now have twins that are 6.5, a 5 year old and a 2.5 year old

My boys are 10 years and 10 months apart. I conceived my oldest son with no issues, so when we couldn't get pregnant after 2 years of trying w started fertility treatments. After 8 years of TTC and no luck we decided to give up and look into other options. First thing I decided to do was get my tubes tied. Made an appointment for a surgery consultation for October 2nd. So on October 1st I decided to take one last test. I was floored when I read Pregnant! I wouldn't have it any other way though!
