Pregnancy To-Do List

Preparing for a Natural Birth: 13 Important Things You Need (PHOTOS)

natural birth childbirth

When you find out you are pregnant, there are so many things to learn and think about, from choosing a baby name to how you can have the best birth experience possible. You arm yourself with knowledge and figure out the best plan for you ... then you realize that plan may deviate, so you fill your brain with more info and surround yourself with the right people. That's where the experts come in.

To have a natural birth, sometimes you need a little help. I spoke with London King, doula and founder of Baby Caravan, and Samantha Huggins, doula and director at Carriage House Birth (both based in NYC), for their insight and tips on what should be a part of your natural birth kit. I also consulted with mother of three and natural birth advocate Nathalie Arruda, who recently home birthed baby number three. Here is their valued advice.

Since you started making your slideshows go to a new page every turn, I haven't bothered. I guess this shows you're desperate for hits, but it takes way too long to see 5-10 slides. Isn't there another way you can fill your ad quota?

Aside from some half cobbled birth plan and an open mind I used nothing on this list, and none of it is on my list for #3 in two weeks

In all 5 hospitals I gave birth at, none of them gave me the option to not have an iv, even though I didn't want one. Literally as soon as I checked in, they put an Iv in me.

I can't relate to this list personally

For me ( I had 6 children) my list was a word search book, lip balm, water, ice and suckers....I did relax as much as possible and I also had an inner focal point...I'd imagine the baby making it's way into the world....Any music, noise bothered me....

I would have liked to opt out of the iv but the hospital insisted... I als would have liked to opt out of the pitocin for the last two but unfortunatly they needed a kick start.. I did however go pain med free!

I do not know of any hospital that lets you opt out of the iv.

Some of these would be great for moms not having a natural birth too!!

Best thing for a natural birth is full support. I went natural wih my second and have zero regrets. No IV. No heart monitor. It was awesome.
