Time for our weekly pregnancy calendar and check-in with mom-to-be bam61907 -- last time around we were at week 9 -- now here's what's happening with the baby at week 10 and what's going on in her life.
What's happening with the baby's development at week 10
Happy graduation day! By the end of this week, your baby's status officially changes from embryo to fetus. He's starting to look more and more human in there, and the most critical development period is over -- congenital abnormalities are unlikely to occur after this point. He's a little over an inch long, crown to rump.
Week 10 Update
So, tell me about your week -- what happened? Any cramping or other symptoms that caused you to worry?
Work and my classes that just started are keeping me pretty busy. I did have some cramping, and it scared the heck out of me, but I didn't call the doctor because the cramps went away and the doctor told me previously that cramping is normal -- but I could have even more cramps than normal since I still have the bleeding between my placenta and uterus.
What kind of classes are you taking? Do you know what you ultimately want to do career-wise?
I'm taking courses towards my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. It fits in with my life because the courses are online so I don't have to go to class, but it's very inconvenient when I'm so tired.
I don't know what I want to do after getting my degree. I wanted to go to law school, but after working for a lawyer I don't know if I want that life.
Let's talk about food -- what have you been cooking, and what's been sounding good?
I've been cooking dinner this week because my husband has been working the night shift. We've had chicken, pork chops, Hamburger Helper. I went out to eat on Friday with a girlfriend and found out steak is not as pleasing to me now as it used to be.
Tell me about the fatigue -- has that gotten any better?
No, I've been extremely tired! I usually go to bed early and [a couple of days ago] I took my first nap.
How's the morning sickness?
Morning sickness has gotten a lot better. I don't know if this is a good sign or what. I am happy it's gone, but it does worry me when I lose my symptoms!
Anything odd happen to you this week?
I went to a wedding on Saturday and everyone was rubbing and touching my stomach. I've always heard woman complain about random people wanting to touch their belly and I never understood why it was a big deal until Saturday night. It was very annoying -- I understand there's a baby in there, but I'm not even showing!
You mentioned last week you had already gained two pounds and you were only 9 weeks -- have you gained more weight?
No. I hope I don't gain any more until the second trimester.
Tell me about how you're feeling about gaining weight while pregnant. Are you concerned about it?
Well, I am worried. I was trying to get pregnant and, now that I am, I know I have to accept that I'm going to gain weight. It is hard to adjust, but I know it will be worth it once my baby is here. I just hope I can lose it all shortly after the baby arrives.
Tell me about married life this week.
My husband has been working crazy hours so I haven't seen him much. We finally BD [baby danced] this weekend after three weeks of not BDing because the first week he was out in the field, then the next two the doctor said I couldn't have intercourse. So I finally was able to make love with my husband!
But after we did BD, I had one small spot of blood come out. I don't know if it's because I have not had sex in three weeks or what, but I did a lot of reading and asking around and I was told it is normal to bleed a little bit after intercourse. It didn't continue to bleed and I had no cramping, so that helped ease my worries.
A quick craving question -- if you could make any kind of food you want magically appear in front of you right now, what would it be?
Lots of milk chocolate.
How would you sum up pregnancy in one word for the week.
+++ Miss a week?
