Teen Mom Kailyn Lowry needs help, and she's turned to Twitter. Yesterday she tweeted a request: "Does anyone know of any reputable midwife and doula services in Dover? I'm having a hard time!" Wow, Kailyn wants to work with a midwife and doula -- that's really cool. I think that says a lot about what kind of pregnancy and delivery Kailyn wants for baby number two.
To be fair, there are many, many doctors who don't treat pregnancy as a sickness and who work with their patients with the same respect and consideration that midwives do. But choosing a midwife does show that you have confidence in your body's ability to gestate and deliver a baby with a minimum of intervention. Back in April Kailyn admitted via Twitter that she wished she hadn't gotten an epidural to deliver Isaac. "They gave it to me so late anyway I so could have done it without."
Of course, you can work with a midwife and still get an epidural. I did both for my baby's delivery. But Kailyn probably wants to work with someone who will support her intentions to labor unmedicated. I hope she finds someone she really likes, though. It sounds like she's having a little trouble. Two of her Twitter followers suggest practices in her area, but Kailyn is hesitant because the midwives rotate duties. They can't promise Kailyn her choice of midwife will actually deliver her baby.
It's the same way with doctors in many practices, actually. I hope Kailyn goes with a midwife anyway, even if she doesn't have full control over who delivers her baby. I can totally relate to her wanting to choose who delivers her baby. She's smart to ask via Twitter -- hopefully she'll hear from someone who can help her.
Do you think Kailyn will find the kind of midwife practice she's looking for?
