Right on, Khloe Kardashian! Words of wisdom and sisterly love spouted forth from the Kardashian formerly known as the "heavy one" (seriously?) during an interview, in which Khloe talked about how uncomfortable it makes her that people comment on how great she looks, then insult big sis Kim Kardashian in the same sentence. Khloe called Kim "pregnant and flawless."
I'm very flattered about the compliments. I've had the worst criticism ... [but] I hate that if I'm being healthy (and it's taken six or eight months to get here, it's not anything fast) ... then they want to take a dig at my sister at the same breath. And that's what irritates me. She's gorgeous, pregnant, and flawless. I hate that ... It is ridiculous.
RIDICULOUS INDEED. First of all, Kim Kardashian is a beautiful woman, and she looks amazing. She's supposed to be gaining weight -- she's PREGNANT. I love that Khloe is defending her. Sister love! But, even more to the point, it is completely insane that somehow we've gotten to a place in society where we are totally obsessed with the bodies of women in the spotlight and it's perfectly normal to denigrate and criticize those bodies -- pregnant or not!
I give props to Khloe, who in general seems to have a pretty good head on her shoulders, for acknowledging how crazy this whole dynamic is: she's received plenty of nasty talk about her own weight, and now that Khloe has lost weight and is in better shape, she's suddenly getting all the compliments while Kim is compared to sofas and Robin Williams in drag. (You have seen those photos in your Facebook feed, haven't you?) It's like our collective consciousness is stuck in middle school.
