The baby shower! It's one of the most exciting pre-baby events on a mom-to-be's calender. You can't wait to open all those stuffed animals, cute outfits, and the various other baby must-haves. However, Jenna Hager Bush went a nontraditional route to fete her first baby.
The former first daughter chose a book-themed shower. The reason? She's a teacher by trade and so was her mom Laura. It's actually a sweet idea. Though, some of the titles she received were a bit odd. Usually people give you things you can read to your child; however, someone gifted her with Fifty Shades of Grey. Well, if she can't actually share it with her newborn, perhaps it will eventually get Jenna in the mood to make baby #2.
I've even considered this particular theme myself. For my first, I wanted the whole "ooh ... ahhh" experience of opening the cute outfits and plush toys. But if I have a second child, I always planned on doing a book party. After all, I already have most of what I need from the first one. Another shower would just be a great excuse to get all of my friends together for a fun afternoon. And that is what I think these events are all about. Pregnancy is exciting, of course, but it can also be incredibly stressful. My own was terrible. I was on bed rest for most of it and felt ill up until delivery. So I really looked forward to my friends gathering and me being the center of attention. It just feels fantastic.
I am sure Jenna, who is due in May, had a ball. It certainly looked like a wonderful party put on by her colleagues at the Today show. Afterwards, she said that she and her husband put all the books inside the nursery, which is decorated in seafoam green -- a neutral color since they don't know the sex of the baby. Well, whether a boy or a girl, she will have plenty to read to the new bundle.
