Ultrasound Parties Are the Newest Way to Overshare Your Pregnancy

ultrasoundFriends and family gathered in my living room, eating my food and drinking my booze, all while staring at my large stomach? It's what my nightmares are made of. There are, however, women out there who'd disagree that this sounds like a horrifying way to spend an evening, and these ladies have started a trend of hosting ultrasound parties.

From Florida to California, pregnant women are hiring ultrasound technicians to come into their homes and put their fetuses up on the big screen so that all the invited guests can get a glimpse of the baby growing inside of them.

Whatever floats your boat, ladies, but I'd sooner die than have Uncle Robbie drip salad dressing from his plate of crudités onto my exposed stomach as some stranger with an alleged degree rubs goo all over my midsection and reveals the most private details of my baby's life and mine to a room full of people who may or may not have accepted the invitation only because they felt like they had to, or because they're big fans of spin dip.

Plus, things could get awkward, fast. The technician could spot an abnormality or, worse, there could be no heartbeat, and then what? Party's over? Everyone goes home? The companies that provide such in-home services say they don't, obviously, announce to the whole room when they see something that needs a doctor's attention, but I can't imagine you wouldn't be able to tell that they've noticed something irregular. Talk about a party pooper.

But, if you're so inclined to throw an ultrasound party, you're in luck. There are plenty of companies dedicated to making your fetus in utero a public event. Just, please. Leave me off the guest list.

Unless, of course, there'll be spin dip.

Would you ever have an ultrasound party?
