'American Idol' Kris Allen Announces Wife's Pregnancy After They're in Scary Car Crash
Remember Kris Allen, winner of the eighth season of American Idol? The guy who tore it up on stage with that acoustic, better-than-Kanye's version of "Heartless"? Well, the now-27-year-old pretty much had the worst New Year's Day ever, having landed in the emergency room after what he described as a "really bad wreck" that left him with a broken wrist.
As if getting in a head-on collision wasn't scary enough, his young wife was also in the car. His pregnant wife. Yep, according to what Allen posted on Twitter after the accident, he and his wife Katy are expecting a baby this year.
Worst New Year's day ever? Scratch that: worst pregnancy announcement ever.
I mean, not that it was a BAD pregnancy announcement. (Is there any such thing?) (Well, maybe if it's coming from Lindsay Lohan.) It's just that I'm sure he didn't plan to be all busted up after a terrifying car accident, painfully tapping out the happy news from a hospital bed.
Allen's mother provided a few more details about her son and daughter-in-law's condition, tweeting a photo of Kris and writing,
Kristopher and Katy are both pretty beat up but alive! Thank you Jesus! They are setting his arm now and will have surgery tomorrow. [Their dog] Zorro is fine, too! Very shook up, but not injured.
Allen followed up by thanking Ford for a car that helped keep "my whole family and the little one we have on the way safe," and adding,
Yes, I got in a really bad wreck tonight, and yes, I'm having a lil baby.
Wow, right? I mean, who would have guessed he was still driving that Ford that was part of his American Idol prize package?
Oh, and also WHEW on the fact that everyone's safe. Allen and his wife seem like such a cute couple -- they had dated since high school, got married just months before his Idol auditions, and now that they have a baby on the way ... well, jeez, I can't even begin to imagine how stressful yesterday must have been for both of them.
Congrats to the happy couple, and here's hoping the eventual birth announcement is much less dramatic.
Were you ever in a scary accident while pregnant?
