Pregnant Woman Jumps Off Cliff for One Last Thrill Before Mommyhood & Dies

Heartbreaking 211

parachutesIt was supposed to be Wioletta Roslan's last base jump. She was four months pregnant and an avid extreme sports addict, but she knew with a baby growing inside her, it was time to take a break. She just wanted to do it one last time.

It was that last time that killed both her and her unborn baby. According to The Sun, last weekend, the 37-year-old Swedish woman was attempting the jump from a cliff despite her mother begging her not to do it.

Halina Zaniewska-Pettersson told the paper:

But she always wanted to carry on. I couldn't force her not to do it -- she was old enough to make up her own mind about things.

Roslan's boyfriend, Aleksander Domalewski, jumped with her -- from her favorite spot at Via Ferrata cliff in Switzerland -- and watched helplessly as she struggled to get her parachute open on the way down. But she could not do so. A source told the paper that he said "she had simply spread her arms and waited for the impact."

It's heartbreaking, but also maddening, because it shouldn't have happened.

I'm all for women being active while pregnant. I have friends who have run all the way up until their due date, done yoga on the way into the delivery room, and all sorts of other activities. I by no means think pregnant women should sit down and be safe for the entire gestation period. But there are limits as to what one should do, and Roslan flagrantly defied them. In a recent television interview, she said, "I only feel alive when I jump. I find normal life boring."

And that's great, but there's a time when you have to put your child's safety and health before your own pleasure, and it starts the minute you know you're pregnant. And yes, sometimes that means boring. It's hard to give up the things we love sometimes, but that's what being a parent is about, and sadly Roslan will never experience that wonderful thrill.

Do you think it was irresponsible for this woman to base jump while she was pregnant?

i think she could have done something different!! that baby is dead because she was too concerned with only on more jump!! some people are selfish and need to think of others before they act. she can always do it again when she isn't pregnant. i am sad for the baby!!

Isn't an unborn baby just a wad of cells? Aren't base jumpers just a wad of cells... eventually?

Everybody talking about the baby but seem to forget that she was also a human being. This unfortunate accident could have happened to anybody, pregnant or not. It is extremely sad that two lives were lost and all (most of ) you can think about is criticizing a dead woman. I am wondering, would any of you even commented if she was not pregnant? Probably not. It is extremely sad what people choose to focus on when someone passes away.

Well, apparently peanutsmommy1 is as stupid as the woman who jumped! Can you seriously not see the flaw in your thinking?

Ashley Toth, you are right! If the woman had not been pregnant I would not comment! Here's why, because as an adult she has the right to decide what risks she takes with her life and in these types of activities, people die. It happens, she however does not have the right to risk the life of her child! That is the difference!

Heck yes this was extremely irresponsible.  She jumped for her own entertainment not even considering her unborn child.  My sympathy to the baby's father and grandmother.

I'm sure the horror that the new mother experienced as she fell helplessly to the ground was punishment enough for her choice. In that moment I bet she realized she had no way out and regreted ever doing it in the first place, apologizing to her family and her unborn child. We all make stupid poor choices from time to time, the trajedy is for this Mom that there are no second chances. Instead of comdemning an already tragic situation, we should take a look at ourselves and be thankful for all the second chances we all have had,

This was very irresponsible to do. She willingly put her baby in danger and sadly that baby never had a chance. When you know are pregnant you do everthing to protect that baby. Would you dive with a newborn? No you wouldnt...so why dive or do stupid things when the baby is developing?

Talk about a "final destination" tragedy smh.

Sending prayers to the family.

"It was supposed to be Wioletta Roslan's last base jump."

Unless I missed something, it truly WAS her last base jump.
