If you are considering having your mom in the delivery room with you, Kate Hudson's birth story may convince you to rethink that plan. The actress's mom Goldie Hawn was by her side during her 18-hour labor with son Bingham and what went down was nothing short of bizarre. And by bizarre, I don't mean putting on bronzer and false eyelashes on the gurney -- a la Snooki. Oh no my friends, Goldie brought a whole other level of looniness (and hilarity) to the miraculous moment.
The wackiness began as soon as Kate phoned to let the First Wives Club star know she was ready to pop. "I called my mom to tell her I'm in the hospital and in labor," she said during a recent sit-down with Ellen DeGeneres. "And she was like okay, well how much time do I have because I was going to take a swim. I'm just like, 'Can you get here in an hour?' She shows up and I have not eaten in like 10 hours. She shows up with a pizza and Doritos! She's like, 'I'm starving!'"

As if it wasn't already, the sitch gets really weird from that point on. "She wants to be in control of everything," Hudson explained. "She puts on these reading glasses that have headlights on them. So now my mom, I'm looking up. I have my doctor and my mom kind of looking over with these headlights."
Wait, there's more. Goldie, who is all about a New Age, spiritual lifestyle, pulls out a prop to help Kate get through the painful labor: "She brings a magnolia flower. She brings this large magnolia. And she starts to do these visualizations with me. She's going, 'Imagine your va-jay-jay as a large magnolia flower blossoming.'"
Crazy right? The only good thing is that this nutty scene is so funny it might make you forget all about the contractions. Gotta love mom for trying to help out, but I am not sure I would have the patience for it. I chuck this whole scenario up as yet another reason to kick everyone besides daddy and the doctor and nurses out of the delivery room.
Did you have any unusual or wacky experiences during birth?

I became pregnant just weeks before my husband deployed to Iraq, and I stayed with my mother during said pregnancy and deployment. We have always enjoyed a close relationship, but that time just cemented it even further. My husband managed to get R&R just in time to be there for the birth, but my mother was in there with us, and she was actually the one who cut the cord (apparently, my tough soldier can endure a war zone, but the prospect of getting anywhere near that umbilical cord nearly made him pass out...lol).
Kaerae I love that you said that. I was blessed with a great MIL but some aren't so lucky. Your son's future wives will love you for respecting their choices. I hope your son's get as lucky in the MIL department as their wives will be.
I wouldn't let my mom in, but my grandma was in with me with my first two. I think it really depends on the mother, some husbands don't belong in there at times either. Just depends on how they act and how they take it. My mom is very much about "me" and not very practical, so I told the docs no one but my grandma since she's extremely intelligent and knows exactly what to pay attention to at the right time (sometimes that's me, sometimes it's the baby).
My first husband wasn't allowed in because he was an idiot, but my second husband was there for all of his. Neither had experienced birth before, but my second husband was much more intelligent about it.
i think great to have you ever make u comfortable to have in there..
