If you are considering having your mom in the delivery room with you, Kate Hudson's birth story may convince you to rethink that plan. The actress's mom Goldie Hawn was by her side during her 18-hour labor with son Bingham and what went down was nothing short of bizarre. And by bizarre, I don't mean putting on bronzer and false eyelashes on the gurney -- a la Snooki. Oh no my friends, Goldie brought a whole other level of looniness (and hilarity) to the miraculous moment.
The wackiness began as soon as Kate phoned to let the First Wives Club star know she was ready to pop. "I called my mom to tell her I'm in the hospital and in labor," she said during a recent sit-down with Ellen DeGeneres. "And she was like okay, well how much time do I have because I was going to take a swim. I'm just like, 'Can you get here in an hour?' She shows up and I have not eaten in like 10 hours. She shows up with a pizza and Doritos! She's like, 'I'm starving!'"

As if it wasn't already, the sitch gets really weird from that point on. "She wants to be in control of everything," Hudson explained. "She puts on these reading glasses that have headlights on them. So now my mom, I'm looking up. I have my doctor and my mom kind of looking over with these headlights."
Wait, there's more. Goldie, who is all about a New Age, spiritual lifestyle, pulls out a prop to help Kate get through the painful labor: "She brings a magnolia flower. She brings this large magnolia. And she starts to do these visualizations with me. She's going, 'Imagine your va-jay-jay as a large magnolia flower blossoming.'"
Crazy right? The only good thing is that this nutty scene is so funny it might make you forget all about the contractions. Gotta love mom for trying to help out, but I am not sure I would have the patience for it. I chuck this whole scenario up as yet another reason to kick everyone besides daddy and the doctor and nurses out of the delivery room.
Did you have any unusual or wacky experiences during birth?

My mom was a pain but none the less, I am glad she was there.
My mom is a nurse and took over at every one of my sons births. When I had my 3rd son the nurses were so nice that I felt like I should warn them so I say "My mother will be here in about an hour after she drops my older 2 off at school and just so you know she is a nurse, and she is going to run the show from that point on." Which she promptly did on arrival. After she got there the student nurse just whispered to me "You were right!!" As annoying as it was, I was so glad she was there and would not change it at all. There were complications with my 2nd and she is such a strong woman that it made me strong as well and she really pushed me through all of my labors. For my 3rd I even had my aunt, her sister (also a nurse), and it was great!
For my second son I also had my little sister in there with me(my husband is very squeamish, he made it through the first but not the last 2, lol) she was right there with the Dr. and even helped get my 2nd out, then cut the cord. This was after months of me telling her that she could not move past my shoulder and see down there. She was right on a stool with a front row seat (she is a pre med student) Most amazing experience because my mother, myself and my sister are the only girl in our immediate family and it brought us all together.
This is a stupid question... obviously there is no real answer. Its up to the Birthing mother PERIOD
My mom and MIL was there when my son was born and my MIL was more worried about my husband getting rest and eating and if he was okay...I was getting madder by the minute. She even told him to go take a nap while I was told to go out and walk around (he knew better and told her that he would just go with me). She stayed home for the delivery of both my daughters and was allowed to come the next day each time! My mom sat on the chair next to me and stayed quiet...just like I wanted it...so I could keep my eyes closed and breathe through the contractions. My husband just did what I told him to do - they were fine! Some people have no business being in there...especially people who talk a lot when they are nervous (my MIL).
LOL my mom was in the delivery room with me and she was great. My labor wasn't very long (just short of 9 hours from start of pitocin to delivery - I was induced) but up until it was time to push she was cracking jokes and just doing her best to help pass the time. The only time she wasn't very helpful was when she was watching the monitor informing me of how lucky I was that I couldn't feel my contractions thanks to the epidural because of how big they were. When it was actually time to push she helped hold my leg up until she decided to sit back and watch her first grandchild come into the world. At that point though I didn't care if the entire circus was in the room watching over the dr's shoulder, all modesty had gone right out the window around the time I started feeling an insane amount of pressure and screaming that I needed to push. I just wanted my baby girl out and in my arms. All in all it was nice having her in there and I found it to be sort of a bonding experience to see her cry tears of absolute joy starting the moment she could see the top of DD"s head.
My mom and fiance were the only ones during the birth and they were so supportive. My little brother came to see me before I had the baby which surprised me lol.
My mom and I have a rocky relationship but I'm glad she was there. It was just my boyfriend and I for the birth but my mom was there thru the labor. She was so great and backed me up for the first time in my life. I had a bitchy nurse come in and over hear me say I was so tired and didn't know if I could do it, and the nurse said, you've only been in labor for live five hours. Before I could say anything my mom yelled at the nurse to STFU and check my chart. The nurse said, check her chart for what. And with a look I have never seen my mom give anyone she answered, they gave my daughter an ambien 6 hours ago I think she's doing pretty f#$%^ing good. So we didn't see that bitch lady again and I had a fairly good birth, but I tell every pregnant woman I meet, no matter what the nurse says don't take the ambien until after you have the baby.
