Most women would probably agree that the safest place you can possibly be after going into labor is at the hospital, right? I mean, once you feel contractions coming on, it's generally a huge source of relief to make it to the hospital in time so you have the security of having plenty of doctors and nurses around.
And that's exactly how Stephanie Ihnen felt when she started having contractions at 38 weeks and headed to the hospital to have her baby. But when she got there, they decided she wasn't quite dilated enough, so the doctors sent her home. But it turns out they were wrong, and at 2:00 a.m. the next morning, Stephanie gave birth to her baby boy on her bathroom floor. Actually, her husband Josh wound up delivering him. (What the heck?!)
Are you believing this story? She gave birth on her own bathroom floor, all because the hospital made a mistake and sent her on her merry way -- while she was having contractions!
And while Josh was definitely a brave soul in taking charge of the situation and delivering his own child, he must've been pretty scared -- especially since he wasn't even sure if he was going to stay in the delivery room at the hospital to watch his son's birth. (I guess when you don't have a choice, you step up to the plate.)
Luckily Josh and Stephanie's new baby boy, Cameron, is doing fine now. But when he first came out, the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and he wasn't breathing. I can't even imagine how scary that must have been for the couple, especially since they tried to go to the hospital and were abruptly sent home. One thing's for sure, that hospital is pretty darn lucky that little Cameron is ok; otherwise, they'd have some serious explaining to do.
You can hear more about their story in this video clip -- they're definitely two very brave individuals!

What would you do if the hospital tried to send you home after having contractions? Would you insist on staying?

if the contractions were so uncomfortable to were i wouldn't want to get then no.. they CAN NOT make me leave! Yes i would make it a big deal to stay if the contractions were so uncomfortable i didn't want to move.
Fondue your are moron, I dont care what she did or didnt spell. I got sent home at 23 weeks and was told oh your fine, I abrupted at home at 24 weeks only days later. By the time the ambulance got me to the hospital and the staff checked me in i had lost over half of my blood. My daugher had to be born by emergency c section and spent 8 months in the NICU. 6 months on life support and now we get to deal with her disablities and mental disorders cause some nurse decides to not take someone serious. A woman KNOWS her damn body folks better then any doctor or any nurse. It was the scary moment of my life being told she wasnt going to make it and neither was I. I already had two little ones who needed me. I pray that this never happens to anyone.
you know your body if you feel going home isnt right STAY!
With the umbilical cord around the baby's neck, I don't think I would have gone back to that hospital. I also probably would have sued them. Either way, when I went to have my second daughter, they sent me home for the same reason, I told them they were going to have to induce, because they had to with my first one. They didn't, I went home and went back in in distress and had to have an emergency c-sec. Sometimes doctors are so stupid!
You have to advocate for yourself anymore. Just don't leave the hospital. We know our bodies better than anyone.
I was contracting and leaking amnio and I was STILL sent home. They said it would be another 2 weeks. I returned the next day for my regular weekly appt where my water completely broke, right there on the table. Then there was that time 9 months before when the pregnancy test came back negative... yes, these are initiatory experiences as a preview of your life with dopey doctors for your children and yourself.
