Any mom who has a birth plan in place wants to do everything in her power to stick to it, but sometimes things don't exactly go as planned during labor & delivery -- as one mom named Emily knows all too well.
Emily shared her birth story of her second son with CafeMom Studios, and she explained how she was determined to give birth to him vaginally since she'd been put under and had a C-section with her first child. She wanted to be able to witness her precious boy coming into the world no matter what happened -- which is why she had no choice but to muster all of her courage when she begged for a second epidural, and her midwife refused.
Take a look at the video clip below to hear more of Emily's story.
OMG. I gotta give Emily tons of credit for listening to her midwife and powering through the pain in order to be able to watch her son being born -- because I can't imagine how excruciating her labor must have been. I was fortunate enough to have an epidural that was on a constant drip & never wore off -- but if I'd been in Emily's shoes? Yeah, I'm pretty sure I would've whined like a baby until the midwife gave in.
It's wonderful that she was able to find her inner strength and experience the miracle of her son's birth exactly the way she wanted to!
Are you willing to stick to your birth plan even when things get tough?

Some of the comments on here are so negative and it is really sad. Everyone has a choice and it is their choice along weather to deliver with or without pain medications. I had a midwife and doula. I spent months leading up to the delivery learning Hypnobirthing to help with a natural birth. It was how my husband and I wanted our daughter brought into this world. I had a natural birth and it was not a horrendous experience because of the Hypnobirthing. I am not sure I would have been able to do it without my doula and Hypnobirthing. Sadly, I don't share my wonderful experience with everyone because of the very same comments that have been on here. I have been made to feel bad because of my choice, like it being selfish. I didn't want a medal or feel I am better than anyone. The moms I know that did a natural birth (meaning sans pain medications) did it for their babies and their overall philosophies on life, not for recognition. My experience is that it is other peoples defensiveness that makes them feel that. Even though there is no reason for the defensiveness!
I forgot to mention in my earlier post that......With my first I was placed on pitocin, which caused horrible back labor! It was so painful that I quickly, after being approached by my family-who knew I wanted a natural birth without meds or an epidural, asked for an epidural after talking with the dr and learning which options were available, what their side-effects would be and if it would releive the pain and pressure in my back. I had to call the dr's in later, as I react very well to meds and the numbness from the epidural had reached the top of my shoulders, of which I was told it shouldn't go above your bellybutton, and while they were there for that they checked on my progress to which the nurse immediately said, "I see the head! We need to get everyone back in here now and deliver this baby!" My first child was born after only 3-pushes. (I feel that my midwife's concerns were legitimate for inducing my second child.)
i have had 5 kids first i was only 15 years old went through first 4 no pain meds and the third one was breech (presented but first which was no fun) only had epidural with the 5th kid cause i was getting a tubal ligation after. i never could see why all that screaming went on watching women go though it on tv cause the pain never seemed that bad to me
