Charlene Medlicott had given up on the idea of ever being pregnant after doctors told her she was infertile when she was only 15 years old. She had been diagnosed with polycystic ovaries, which is a condition that makes it very difficult to become pregnant.
Doctors were sure it would never happen for Charlene, so you can only imagine her complete and total shock when she wound up conceiving quadruplets naturally five years later, at the age of 20!! The idea that she and her husband were expecting a baby was a surprise enough in itself -- but to hear they actually had four little ones on the way? OMG. The word "disbelief" doesn't seem to do their story justice.
Of course, carrying multiples can be a bit scary and risky, which is why doctors advised Charlene to undergo selective reduction to eliminate two of her babies. She and her husband refused, and now six months later, they have four beautiful daughters, Evelynn, Gracie-Lou, Rosaline, and Amalia-Rose.
The odds of conceiving quadruplets naturally and without the help of fertility treatments are twenty-five-million-to-one, which makes the birth of these four babies even more miraculous. They were definitely meant to be, even though Charlene never dreamed she'd actually become pregnant and give birth to her own biological children.
Being diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome can be so devastating, but hearing how Charlene and her four gorgeous little girls defied the odds should give other couples hope that their dream of having kids isn't necessarily over because of that diagnosis. And if she was able to conceive four babies, surely there must be a chance of other women with this condition becoming pregnant with one!
Do you know anyone who's had trouble getting pregnant because of polycystic ovaries?

I think my 1st comment created some confusion. I didn't "just take ovulation tests" & that was the end of it. I had to take the ovulation tests to determine when/if I was ovulating. Along with taking metformin. I have been treated by medical professionals for this for 6 years. The 1st step was to determine if I was even ovulating on my own. So it wasn't a simple fix as someone implied. I was one of the lucky ones not to go through fertility treatments and acutally able to get pregnant by taking ovulation tests & determine WHEN I was ovulating
my daughter was diagnosed at 14 with PCOS, and we were told she would have to use fertility drugs to get pregnant. When she turned 35, with no success in attempting to get pregnant her OB/GYN told her she would never have children... she proved hom wrong, my granddaughter will be 3 in December, and she is our miracle baby.
I've heard of too many women being told they could never have children and almost always end up with a surprise baby. If you have a uterus and ovaries, there's a chance you will get pregnant! Congrats to this couple on 4 amazing daughters!
Um, PCOS is not necesarry *permanent.* It many cases in can be, but there are a few situations were proper diet can help mitigate PCOS. Improper diet from processed foods inflames the body and exacerbates PCOS - a natural diet composed of unproessed foods can help restore balence to your body. That probably sounds really fluffy, but as there is no harm in switching over to a more natural diet (and in fact your health will improve all around!) if you are struggling with PCOS/infertiltiy you might as well try the better diet and see what happens. The Weston A Price foundation has a lot of info on the subject, FYI.
WHATEVER!! I have PCOS and am about to have my second... Naturally conceived!
Thanks Saphron. I've researched and found the same thing. I don't know why more people don't know about this.
