Jason Lee Gives New Baby a Really Weird Name (Compared to His Other Kids)

by Mary Fischer on June 26, 2012 at 1:37 PM

Jason Lee & wife CeranIt's a boy for actor Jason Lee! He and his wife Ceran welcomed their new little guy on June 16, and he weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds, 6 ounces. This is baby number two for the couple, as they also share a 3 1/2-year-old daughter together named Casper. Jason also has an 8 1/2-year-old son, Pilot, from a former relationship.

Pilot and Casper are definitely very unusual names -- even for celebrities. Naming your kids after an aviator and a friendly ghost, respectively, is definitely a bit on the odd side. But then again, Jason Lee isn't exactly traditional. (The guy has made movies where he's chasing around talking chipmunks, for crying out loud.)

And that's why the baby name Jason & Ceran chose for their new son is kind of a shock -- because it really isn't wacky or out of the ordinary at all.

They decided to call him Sonny, which is a fairly normal, average, everyday name. And its meaning, "Our Son," is about as basic as baby name meanings get. The origin of the name is American, and it's actually more commonly used as a nickname than given as a first name.

I have to admit, the name Sonny does sound pretty cute for a little boy, and it was probably a lot easier to come up with than Pilot or Casper. And odds are good that Sonny will have a much easier time growing up with his name than his siblings have has with theirs.

What do you think of the name Sonny for a baby boy?

Pilot by itself isn't any weirder then Sailor or Jett but the entire name is Pilot Inspektor, lol that's odd but kinda cute. I like the name Casper which prior to the friendly ghost was a pretty normal name and given that name, Sonny makes sense since it's a litte old fashioned.
