Just when I thought Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo couldn't possibly get any cuter together -- they went ahead and shared adorable photos from the babymoon they just took in St. Lucia. Don't they look so happy and in love -- not to mention very relaxed? I honestly don't think they could've picked a more romantic spot than the tropical island, especially since the resort where they stayed, Jade Mountain, is one of the most gorgeous hotels in the Caribbean. (Not that I've actually been there myself. I wish.)
And while going on a vacation is always fun and therapeutic, taking a special trip as a couple before your baby arrives is an absolute necessity -- as Vanessa seems to realize. She had the following message to share with her Twitter followers:
"Make sure to make time for each other before baby arrives! Take a babymoon. Remember how you got here in the first place!"
And her last line is what really struck a chord with me -- "Remember how you got here in the first place!"
One of the first things that goes out the door the minute the baby arrives is your time alone just the two of you. It's so easy to forget that before you became parents -- you were a couple, and that's why it's so essential to take a babymoon and have one last vacation alone before you become a party of three.
My husband and I didn't take a babymoon, and I've always kind of regretted it. We did go out to lunch at a nice restaurant the day before I was induced (so incredibly romantic), but other than that, we pretty much went about our daily routines without realizing just how much our lives were about to change. I truly wish we'd had one last hurrah to enjoy downtime just the two of us, because the minute our son arrived, vacation fun took on a whole new meaning.
Gone are the days of lounging on the beach & enjoying the cool ocean breezes with a good book. Instead, my husband and I take turns entertaining our son, and while one of us is collecting shells & building sandcastles, the other tries to savor a few minutes of beach chair time (which usually doesn't last very long).
And even though my husband and I have taken a few trips without our son since he was born, it's not like we fully relax and live in the moment while we're away. Even when it's just the two of us, our son is always in the forefront of our minds.
Nick and Vanessa will never regret taking that babymoon to St. Lucia, and once their little one arrives, they'll be even more glad they decided to escape for one last vacation as Mr. & Mrs. Lachey. (Especially after a few months of diaper blowouts and middle-of-the-night feedings.)
Are you planning on taking a babymoon?

I didn't. Wish I did though..
We weren't going to when I was pregnant with our first, but then my husband stumbled upon an awesome package deal for a long weekend in Washington DC, which is a place I'd always dreamed of visiting. He called me from work and blurted out "Do-you-want-to-go-to-Washington-DC-SAY-YES!" Two weeks later we were on a plane! We had a blast on that trip. Beyond being our babymoon, it was the first trip we'd taken since we got married that was just for us. All the other trips we'd gone on had been about other people - visiting family, traveling for weddings - but this trip was just OURS. Those memories belong just to us. :-)
I wish I did I no longer have DH here on Earth .
