Going through labor and delivery only to wind up losing your baby at the end has got to be one of the most devastating experiences a mother can go through, as an English woman named Sara Proud knows all too well.
Sara went into labor and was taken to the hospital by her partner, Steven Yorke, but when they arrived, they were told to move into a waiting room instead of her being admitted into the hospital. They stayed in that room for 80 minutes, when Sara's labor progressed, and Yorke realized she needed help immediately. He went to find someone to assist, and while he was searching, Sara delivered a baby boy right there in the waiting room.
The poor baby was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, and eventually two midwives did take him away to try and bring him back to life. Sadly, they were unable to revive him, and he passed away -- all while his poor mother was still in the waiting room -- delivering her own placenta.
Oh. My. GOD. When I picture this poor woman lying (probably on the floor) of a HOSPITAL waiting room wondering why in the hell no one helped her, I just want to break down and cry. She must have been so scared for the health and safety of her baby -- and then to have to deliver her placenta all by herself? I can't even imagine.

But the worst part of this story is the fact that Sara had no idea that baby Kyle had died until Steven told her the news. According to him, she's been unable to leave the house since coming home from the hospital, and both of them are absolutely heartbroken.
The couple has ordered an autopsy on baby Kyle to see whether or not getting proper medical attention would've given them what they expected when they checked into that hospital -- a happy and healthy baby boy. That's really all any parent wants -- and it's definitely what Sara and Steven deserved. My heart goes out to them -- and I only hope they can find some peace in the future.
What words of sympathy would you offer to this poor couple?

Absolutely heartbreaking- my heart goes out to that poor family. I don't know that there's a need to make this into a political issue, however. I live in a country that has socialized medicine, and have always received very good care, through four pregnancies, one m/c, three births, and major abdominal surgery for a gynecological health issue. I've had friends in the US who sat in waiting rooms for hours on end too. It doesn't excuse it- it just points out that wait times are not specific to any one kind of hospital administration system.
It is highly unlikely that having a nuchal cord killed him and putting that in your article only scares the crap out of people. Nuchal cords occur in almost half of pregnancies and are only dangerous if the cord is also too short, which happens extremely rarely. I am so sick of the fear-mongering. My son was like most babies with nuchal cords. He had it wrapped around his neck three times and he was born happy and healthy and naturally. Stop terrifying people for no reason.
That said. I feel incredibly sorry for this family. What a terrible thing to go through, it will take a long time, but I hope they find peace.
ERs are not allowed to refuse service. You will get treated, it's just that you will be billed.

I believe guests point was that we're not counting things the same. A premmie that we attempted to save would be an infant mortality here, but in the UK would be counted as a misscariage, not an infant mortality.
I don't like socialized medicine, but I don't think this was the result of that.
Has anyone ever heard of "Killer King" in Compton, California.
THIS IS TERRIBLE,I PRAY FOR THESE PARENTS. I MYSELF ALSO HAD TROUBLE WITH THE CORD BEING WRAPPED AROUND MY BABY'S NECK. THE HOSPITAL I WAS SUPPOSED TO DELIVER AT WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE ME A WHEELCHAIR,WHEN I ARRIVED AT HOSPITAL,WITH CORD HANGING BETWEEN MY LEGS. THEN DOC WALKED OUT SAID NOTHING HE COULD DO FOR ME OR BABY THAT WE WERE BOTH DYING.WENT TO WAITING ROOM TOLD MY HUSBAND AND OTHER FAMILY WE WERE DYING. NURSE CALLED ANOTHER DOCTOR IN,HE RODE WITH ME TO A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL,HAD A C SECTION BABY LIVED BUT HAS CERBAL PALSY BECAUSE OF IT.WE TRIED TO SUE BUT WERE TOLD ONE HOSPITAL WOULD NOT STAND UP AGAINST THE OTHER HOSPITAL.AND IT WAS THEIR FAULT.SO I SURE HOPE THEY CAN SUE THEIR HOSPITAL.
That's so sad.
thats sad
Seriously blaming socialized medicine? Come on people! Would you be saying that if this mother had chosen to deliver at home with these same results? The birth process has risks, quite frankly my Son was born BLUE as a pair of jeans, had to be helped to breath after being PULLED out of my body with forceps. By the grace of god he survived. Umbillical cords being wrapped around the neck is a very common occurance. You all don't even know if this baby died right AT Birth, or had already strangled on the cords HOURS prior!
