100 Most Popular Baby Names of 2011

by Michele Zipp on May 14, 2012 at 3:19 PM

baby smilingA lot of weight rides on the name you choose for your kid. And every year when the Social Security office releases the data on the most popular baby names, parents get upset. As a Michele who faced the extreme popularity of my name way back when, I'm here to tell you that if your child's name is on this list, it's going to be just fine. In fact, take pride in knowing your baby name choice won't be ridiculed. Unless of course it's Nevaeh, the name far too many seem to hate. (Not me!) Guess what, though? It made the list!

There's also a strong Kardashian influence seen on both the boy name and girl name list (Mason and Khloe), and while most of the boy names seem traditional or names of kids I know, Gavin, Wyatt, and Julian were just a few names that refreshed the line-up. Perhaps most shocking to me is that Brooklyn came in at 21.

Either way, keep up the good work, America. We're naming our kids well. At least I think so. Check out the top 100 most popular baby names.

My daughter is named Aubrey, born September 2011. Named after my great uncle and I really thought I was being original when I named her that!

I highly doubt my daughters name will ever make it to a 'popular baby name' list, and that makes me love it even more!!!

My poor Ava is eight now and her name has finally made it to number five. We didn't know any Avas eight years ago and it has been number one, two or three until now! Baby Dylan is 33 but time will tell - maybe this year his name will become the "Ava" for boys.

I do like Luke and Layla on this list. Lots of good names on there...

Neither of my daughters' names(Meagan and Liberty) made the list...not that I thought they would and one of the reasons we picked them. I do like Addison on the list but I would never use it because of how popular it's becoming. I also like Logan but it doesn't flow well with our last name ....
