A lot of weight rides on the name you choose for your kid. And every year when the Social Security office releases the data on the most popular baby names, parents get upset. As a Michele who faced the extreme popularity of my name way back when, I'm here to tell you that if your child's name is on this list, it's going to be just fine. In fact, take pride in knowing your baby name choice won't be ridiculed. Unless of course it's Nevaeh, the name far too many seem to hate. (Not me!) Guess what, though? It made the list!
There's also a strong Kardashian influence seen on both the boy name and girl name list (Mason and Khloe), and while most of the boy names seem traditional or names of kids I know, Gavin, Wyatt, and Julian were just a few names that refreshed the line-up. Perhaps most shocking to me is that Brooklyn came in at 21.
Either way, keep up the good work, America. We're naming our kids well. At least I think so. Check out the top 100 most popular baby names.

Not only is my Ava fifth, and my Anna (short for Adrianna which isn't on the list) who's 38th, for the first time even a version of MY name is on there! Of course mine is spelled Alleah, but that doesn't change the fact that I didn't know of a single other person in the world with my name until I was listening to the radio one day and they announced that Aaliyah (the singer) had died! So it's really really strange to me to see my name on a Top Baby Names list!
I named my children Dominick and Adreanna, I chose them because I liked them and always will, don't really care if they are on a list or not. lol It is kinda neat to look though.
I'm actually surprised that William is on the list at all let alone at the top of it. We only know one other couple that has a William who is under five. It doesn't bother me at all, though. I like nice, traditional boy names. Our second son will be named Michael and the fact that it's high up doesn't bother me, either. If we ever manage to have a girl (my husband's family isn't too great at making girls, so I have my doubts) her name will be Emmalynn (made up, but with significance to me).
I have been trying to wait patiently for the 2011 list to come out so we can start discussing names. I'll pull up the top 500, start with about #75 on the list & go from there to see what strikes me. Nothing hard to spell or pronounce, but nothing too popular either - simple criteria really.
Only my youngest is on the list. Isaiah. I love that name though!! My oldest is Rocco. Not that popular which is good!
CRAP! Ella? Really? I thought I was being origional! I don't know anyone named Ella.
...anyway...all the names I've considered are on there...that makes me mad because I've had these names picked out since middle school = (
