A Pregnant Sarah Michelle Gellar Is About to Join the 'Old Moms' Club

by Deborah Cruz on April 27, 2012 at 6:18 PM

Sarah Michelle Gellar Sarah Michelle Gellar and, husband, Freddie Prinze Jr. are expecting their second child later this year. They already have a 2-year-old daughter, Charlotte Grace, and are very excited about growing their family.

At 35, Sarah Michelle is just one of a growing trend where women are pregnant at what doctors consider an “advanced maternal age.” In Hollywood alone, she is joined by Uma Thurman, Elizabeth Berkeley, Tori Spelling, Melissa Joan Hart, Lisa Loeb and Reese Witherspoon and those are just off the top of my head.

Granted there are a few issues that may arise and when you get pregnant after 35, but I think having kids a little later in life is fantastic. Couples are usually more stable in their relationship -- they've traveled, they have had time to really get to know one another, and they're generally more advanced in their careers. Women who have been in their chosen fields for a longer amount of time tend to be making more money and more vital to their company.

Also, parents who are older seem a little more equipped psychologically to have a child. Obviously, none of us can be totally prepared for what parenthood brings. But we can be better parents when we're older because we have evolved into a better version of ourselves. We have evolved into a more wise, advanced if you will, version of who we once were. At least I think I have.

What are your thoughts on having a baby at 35 or later?

I had 2 of my 3 kids after age 35-1 at 36, another at 41. It's just a number, don't get hung up on it. I've never been one for listening to what people "my age" should and should not be doing.

im 36 with a 2 year and pregnant with my 2nd, Iwaited for all those reasons, so glad I did because i have stable committed relationship, no mortgage, travelled and achieved what i wanted to do career wise so I can take 5-7 years off and pop back up in a similar position or do something different. i get to be just mom and i love it. my sister had hers at 21 and is now having issues with wanting to go overseas to work, divorced and up to her eyeballs in debt. you can't tell a young person who wants to have a baby though.....

Congratulations to Michelle Geller on her second child. I remember her on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and she looked like a teenager back then. It really doesn't seem so long ago either. I've been told that once a mother reaches her 30's there are more risk factors involved or our biological clocks are ticking and having children in our twenties is better for the baby. That isn't to say that having a baby later in life won't produce a healthy baby because many women do so,

Good for them, but it is a little selfish in my opinion to have children later in life cause you want to enjoy yourself first. Now you are putting your child and youself at risk, and but atleast you more mature and "ready"... You are never ready I promise :-)

I know many ladies who have had healthy babies in their late 30's and even early 40's. It not for me, but to each their own.

I think it's fine.  After 45 is when it gets a little dicey for me.
