It's weird how you go your whole life never realizing how many pregnant women there are walking around at any given time, UNTIL you get pregnant (or want to become pregnant) yourself. Then all of a sudden, it seems everyone around is you is pregnant, and you start feeling like maybe it's contagious because more and more people you know start announcing their news.
For some women who work in a maternity ward in the UK, however, that whole phenomenon has been nothing short of phenomenal. According to an article in The Sun, nine women who work in the maternity unit at Wansbeck Hospital in Northumberland have recently given birth or are currently pregnant. That includes seven midwives, one consultant, and a secretary. In this case, you really do have to wonder what's in the water there.
The ladies say they in no way planned the baby boom, but were rather surprised by it themselves. The first to give birth was Amanda Johnson, 11 weeks ago. Two more ladies delivered after her, and the remaining six are due this summer. Johnson told the paper:
I didn’t actually tell anyone else until I’d had my first scan, but after that it seemed every week someone else was announcing they were pregnant. The whole ward has just been a lovely place at the moment.
I knew a couple of people who were pregnant around the same time I was, but no close friends that were living by me at the time. I imagine it would be so comforting to have some who is going through it at the same time to commiserate with, and to know what you're going through as it actually happens. So to have that many women right there together in it on daily basis had to be incredible. And what a seriously amazing place to deliver a baby that would be, surrounded by all of that beautiful, maternal love.
The only problem, of course, might happen when much of the staff is out on maternity leave at the same time. Hopefully, they'll figure that out soon.
Were you pregnant at the same as other close friends, family members or co-workers? Was that helpful to you?

Three of my coworkers were pregnant at the same time I was pregnant with my firstborn. And it was a small workplace. All the other women constantly joked about not drinking the water. One particular coworker gave birth to her baby within days of me.
I'm pregnant again now, and so are two of the same (now former) coworkers. And the same one is due within days of me again. It's like we're on the same wavelength or something.
Me, my sister, two of my brother's wives (the third is not married or dating) AND my husband's brother's wife are all married. Due in August, September, October, and December. Not as many as some, but that's every female in childbearing age in my family.
I work at a baby store & there were at least 3 pregnancies within the past year. I don't know if it was something in the water or because of the merchandise, but I was avoiding pregnancy like the plague!
I was no pregnant at the same time as anyone I know.
With my youngest, my sister would have been due about 5-6 weeks after me, but unfortunately, she lost the baby. We later found out our sister-in-law was also pregnant at the same time, but she's crazy, so no, it wasn't fun or comforting or anything. She didn't tell anyone except her husband (my brother) until I had the baby, then announcing she was due in 5 weeks, but didn't want to stress us out. She insisted her due date was December 16, ignoring her "midwives" (we don't believe she really saw anyone) who told her she was due December 30. In January, she said her due date had been "moved" to January 15. She didn't have the baby until February 1 - and he was only 5.10 lbs! ANYWAY... my mother refused to come see my newborn baby because she didn't want to leave until the next grandchild was born (my brother and the crazy SIL live with her) and he was, in some sense, 7 weeks late! It was incredilbly stressful, and of course I felt like I was competing with her (Oh, look at me!!!! I don't have a CLUE when my due date is!!!!) Thank goodness I knew like 8 other people who were also pregnant at the same time as me, and 7 of them were normal.
I'm a teacher and there were 8 of us who had babies last school year. It was crazy! 4 of us were all pregnant together with our first kids 3 years ago too.
